Twins insurance?!

My daughter is only 16 but she says she will definately get twin insurance when she's older. She is a twin, so am I and I also have twin brothers. 50% of all my mother's and my pregnancies have resulted in twins. Perhaps she will be too "high risk" to insure!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

Just an update - the scan only showed 1 baby so insurance wasn't needed after all. It's best to regret things you have done rather than those you have not...0

Congratulations. That's lovely news.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Congratulations on the birth of your one and only baby!
I took twin insurance out last December - didn't need to claim (one precious baby) but I had a peace of mind. This is what insurance is there for so I don't regret the £57.50 or whatever it cost. I disagree with people who say it's "ridiculous". Would they think that house/car insurance is ridiculous? I don't see much difference frankly. Insurance is not a vehicle to get your money back if the event doesn't materialise, but some people treat it as "money wasted" and believe that insurers "owe them". This is how we all end up paying more when some people fiddle with claims... but it's a different story.
Yes, it was a single premium, before your first scan (but they could stretch to 14 weeks if you haven't had a scan yet). I found many brokers online but they were all agents for Zurich and all the quotes came back the same. My GP was so surprised when I asked her to sign the form!0 -

I would like to take out an insurance against having twins so I wondered if there is anybody out there who has done this.
The probability is quite high - my OH has twin brothers, his aunties are twins and my mum has twin aunties on her side. I already have 1 child but I'm expecting again and have a funny feeling....
Many thanks for your kind help.
I'm posting this on Insurance and Families boards as not too sure who will know this.
Just a point though. Your OH having twins on his side of family wouldn't make any difference to you having them. Non-Identical twins happen when 2 eggs (instead of the usual one) are released and fertilised. It is nothing to do with twins on the husbands side of the family.Non identical (fraternal) twins tend to run in families.
Identical twins are caused by one egg splitting in two after fertilisation. Identical twins are always same sex.0 -
I've got twins too and i think it is a good idea also, you often need to finish work a lot earlier with twins, there can be more pregnancy complications plus the pregnancy is generally harder as it is so uncomfy so that money could really help out and ease financial worries if you had to go off sick / or get in someone to clean, look after other children etc etc, well worth considering, twins are an absolute special blessing but they are still expensive!
congrats on your "singleton" baby though0 -
hi all, i have a question, what hoops do you have to jump through to get a payout on this, we are 6 weeks pregnant, went for a scan on the off chance and then suddenly found out we have twins! great news but can we get a retrospective policy considering it is so early and we have not had the 12 week scan as yet?0

you cannot get twins insurance if you already know you are expecting twins.
Your gp has to sign a declaration to say that you have not had a scan to date otherwise you would be on a sure fire winner!!!! It is irrelevent if you have not had a 12 week scan as you have had one earlier which has determined a multiple pregnancy.0 -
Hi there
My wife is 9 weeks at the moment and has been feeling a lot more tired and sick than her previous two pregnancies aswell as being bigger for her dates.
My brother recommended twins insurance but I can't find any companies providing online quotes or details.
Can someone give me some names of companies that offer this?
Regards

From what I have heard about twins insurance, they are reluctant to pay out where there is a history of twins in the family.
I'd second the advice about going down the bookies!Self employed and loving it
