You mea as soon as one individual buys it, they put it back on sale because it is unreliable?0 -
A quick look on eBay shows that for £1.5k you will be able to get a 1999 206 with approx 100k on the clock.
Diesel is 10% more than petrol and growing but for a 1.4 is 29% more efficient but you will pay more for the car.0 -
Why do you want a new car?
What's wrong with your Corsa?
Do you know enough about cars to be able to tell if the one you spend £1500 on will be better than the car that you already have?
I'm not saying don't get a new car. Obviously if that's what you want to do then go for it. But for us to be able to help we need to know what your motives are.0 -
Well I always wanted a Peugeot 206, but I was given my Mum's Corsa when I passed my test (for which I am very lucky). However, it would be nice to get a slightly newer car and I'd really like a Peugeot 206.
I know of a guy who deals in buying and selling cars, who knows the ins and outs of all things vehicular, so if I found a car I could ask for his help.0 -
And you have the money (or are happy that you are getting a loan you can afford if your circumstances change)?
[From what's been said I believe the answer is yes, but thought I'd better check.]0 -
Oimi have you looked at the current financial climate? You are currently at university and I imagine have a very limited income I think it would be madness trading in a car that you have known for a number of years for one that could have anything about to pack in. (OK same can be said of the Corsa)
But just now is the time to cut any uneccessary expenditure and particularly in your case I would wait until I had left university and got a job before thinking of splashing out on another car.
I remember the 70's (sigh) and you haven't seen anything yet inflation is probably about to through the roof folk are going to lose their homes commodity prices are rising fast. Jobs are going to be lost.
Get your tin helmet on and buckle up for what I expect to be quite an interesting ride. I for one have decided this years holiday in Italy is off the agenda just because I think it it is time to be a wee bitty careful.
And don't get me started on my new car which was leased to keep my OH happy to tow her ponies my fuel bill has risen by an expected £1,000 per annum (and rising) between what I had in February and now......arghh.0 -
Well I will be selling my car so I hope to make up a lot of the cost with that. My other half has told me that she is willing to put aside £500. A Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 16v T reg with sun roof, electric windows, 3 doors, cd player, with full service history in good condition considering its age should go for around £1000 I should imagine.0

He might be a well off student?
Surely if he can afford it and it's what he always wanted then why not?
Martin's mantra is
Will I use it?
Is it worth it?
Can I get it cheaper somewhere else?
Yes, he'll use it.
To him, if it is what he's always wanted, it could be argued that it was worth it.
And assuming that the guy he's taking with him knows a lot then he couldn't get it cheaper.
If it was me then I would totally agree with you. I would much rather have a car that I knew worked than get a different car. Apart from two cases where my family has outgrown them, all my cars have either died, been written off, or been financially unviable due to repairs.
But it isn't me who is looking to buy here...0 -
