Skoda Felicia 1.3mpi should get you at least 45mpg on long motorway journeys if driven at 60mph. Probably 35mpg city driving, more if driven very carefully and mindfully, i.e. high gear without labouring engine, not coasting (clutch down) to lights. But then again I would expect your Corsa to do this or better. I know you say you get it serviced - but I hope this isn't just an oil and filter change. There are spark plugs, air filters, fuel filters, gear oil, coolant, etc etc. Also do not forget the cam belt if there is one as failure can lead to costly repairs. Also bear in mind low mileage does not mean servicing is not needed - short journeys and low mileage in itself increases the need for servicing.
Modern engines have a choke system which uses a temperature sensor either immersed in coolant or in the inlet manifold, adjusting the fuel mixture based on the engine's temperature. If such a sensor fails this can lead to high fuel consumption.
As already stated - *DO* check insurance prices - and *DO* shop around for insurance. It is probably the second biggest cost to you, with fuel coming first.0 -
Oimi, we are only trying to help. To find out your yearly mileage look at you MOT certificates if you only have the last one you can go here http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/html/home.html
Which will show you the recorded milage at all the MOT's you have had done since they issued the new style certs.
The car has only averaged under 6000 miles per year since new.
Which corsa do you have? engin size then we can look up what the expected MPG is.0 -
I currently own a Vauxhall Corsa made in 1999, which as I worked out does 25MPG. This seems to be extremely low althouogh my current costs seem to verify that this is the case.
Double check your figures, see if you are working it out correctly. OR check that there is nothing wrong with the car.
I get just over 28 MPG & thats on a 4x4:p0 -
This is like pulling teeth...lol0

I get about 28mpg in my loaded van pulling a large box trailer that is about as aerodynamic as a brick
Whilst you have a petrol engine, I still think there's either something wrong with your calculations or your car0 -
My Corsa has a 1.2 engine and has a full service every year.0

I think if your car is running fine, then your calculations are wrong.
I have a 1.6 petrol audi. This car does 50mpg on 10 mile plus journeys and 38mpg round town 1 mile start stop journeys.
Something is wrong. I suggest you recalculate this week. Fill the car until full, record the milage then fill it back up. You will need to convert the litres you put back in the car to gallons.
Check you receipt for the amount of litres it required to fill it back to full convert to gallon then divide by the miles you have done.0 -
Lucy, this is what I thought too!
But I have filled the car up twice and emptied the tank and both times come back with similar results. Filled the car with 36 litres, as there was already petrol in the tank and worked out how many MPG I got by seeing how many kilometres I covered before I got back to the number of litres I had prior to filling up. Entered this information into a kilometres/miles converter and then used the result to generate the MPG the car managed using a MPG calculator. Then did the same thing with another similar calclator, came back with the same result.
Basically I have decided that I am going to buy a car with my Girlfriend and we have a budget of around £1,500. We would like a Peugeot 206/7 with preferably a 1.4 litre engine.
What I want to know is whether it would be cheaper to choose a diesel, petrol or other fuel source?0
