Cheap freeview boxes from £29.99 and no sky subscription

    Hope this helps
If you read her post you will note Freeview is not an option where she lives.

You can get a Freeview box for £27 from Asda!
  • Last question before I try to go down the sky route (thanks for being patient with me):
The current 3months 1/2 price offer ends at the end of Feb...do you think this offer is likely to be extended or a new offer come into effect after it - ie. would it be best for me to order in the next couple of weeks, or do I wait for March to see if they do a better offer?

That's the million dollar question - it is like predicting the stock market!

Having said that, Sky had a similar promotion late last year too and had a '1/2 price for first 4 months' offer in Jan. With HD boxes / services to be flogged when the service starts later this year, I'd be surprised if Sky don't try to get more customers through deals like these. But the decision to go for it now or sit tight for a similar / better offer is yours!
  • Don't be put off too much by the freeview site saying your not in coverage. My postcode says I cant get it, but I have a perfect picture using a 20 year old aerial (that fell off the roof 3 years) thats in a plant pot on my patio . To cap it all the cable is taped onto the aerial because the connectors have corroded away!!!. So borrow one or get on from asda / tesco to test. (so you can take it back.)

I ditched sky, and now have a digifusion FVRT200 hard drive recorder. So always lots to watch when I want it , and so easy to record with its 14 day guide. One button and its set.

As suspected, Sky are back with the 1/2 price offer for 4 months and £10/- credit if done online!
  • I have a sky+ box which I use as a secondary freeview box. We upgraded to the HD box so this was just spare. We also have a regular sky box.

I am able to record on sky+ without any subscription - though not all freeview channels are available for this (itv and ch5 for instance). Since I got the cards mixed up and since sky told me I am only able to use MY PAID FOR sky+ box to record if I upgrade to their package to activate the recording again, I have two conclusions:

1 Sky cancellation wasn't cancelled properly.
    or
2 Use an old sky card and unlock the recording facility.

I'm no expert in this field and maybe there is another possibility but I have very happily recorded the entire Star Trek series that was shown on CBS Action without paying a penny. (sad, but I love it!)

You cannot use a Sky box as a freeview box - different things completely.

I think the OP might have moved on in the last 5 years.:D
