Hi, I have the Halstead ACE 24 combi boiler and we have just realised that when we have turned the hot taps on, one of the radiators and the towel rail is coming on.
Any ideas what could be causing it?

    Thanks x

I'm sure I replied to this earlier today, don't know where my post has gone though:mad:

Your diverter valve will be stuck mid postion and need replacing, You probably are not getting your hot water as hot as before as well?

tank fed to combi, other poster,

    rads ok, keep rads,

    change radvalves, usually,

    clean system, fit combi

use fernox f3 and then drain and clean, then fernox f1

£40 screwfix or £15 e-bay for both bottles

    :j bye
  • Apologies for reviving an old thread but this is the closest I've got to a description of my Baxi combo boiler problem. I've been studying previous replies but need some help to assess my problem.
While CH thermostat is turned down low enough to not have the boiler firing, when opening hot water tap, boiler still fires up but water never really gets hot enough. Not hot enough to take a shower in midst of winter anyway...
However, when turning up the CH thermostat to trigger the boiler to start, leaving the boiler running for a few minutes and then opening a hot water tap also produces really nice hot water.
Now, I've been wondering if previous descriptions of diverter-valve problems apply to my situation as well but if that was the case, I would expect to get no hot water at all. In winter (as opposed to the midst of summer) this is not so much of a problem because turning up the CH while taking a shower does not seem too much of a waste.
I've highlighted this issue to BritGas maintenance guy for the past 4 years and keep getting the same reply that I should just turn the CH up whenever I need warmer hot water. Surely that cannot be the final answer on this...
  • I have a biasi combi boiler. The heating works fine but the hot water won't kick in. Any advice?

Hi I have a problem with a combi boiler and was hoping someone could help me out please.

Boiler was working fine until Boiler man came out for his yearly check.

Then it was making a lot of noise. Anyway it has this round red plastic tank on the back which I guess should hold the water.

On top is a release valve such like the ones found on bicycle tyres.

In my haste to stop the noise I pressed this valve and lots of air came out, then water (Which is when I stopped pressing it).

At 1st this seemed to have done the trick and boiler was running quiet again.
(I was thinking that sneaky boiler engineer did this on purpose - adding air)

However, within a couple of days it got to be worse than ever before.

Now it sounds like a Sherman tank and does not heat water or radiators.

Also when it is switched on it seems as if it is blowing itself out as the flames have orange in them and keep looking like they revert back and forth to the pilot light (as you see when heating is switched off).

Yikes... what can I do.. is it because I let the air out? Do I need a bicycle pump and pump some air back in via that valve?!

Thanks for any help in advance.
    Much appreciated.

(My landlord is busy replacing my roof, I dare not ask him for a new boiler too).

You have filled the expansion vessel with water! get a plumber out because it needs draining and the correct pressure put back in,with respect you don't seem to know much about boilers so it's not worth you messing it could get expensive for you!
