  • Hello. My Alpha CB24 is behaving very strangely, and I have no idea why. For the last few days in the morning the hot water has been just trickling out of the taps, then in the afternoon it is fine. Then today, it was doing the same thing, only now the kitchen hot tap doesn't even ignite the boiler. The bathroom tap DOES ignite the boiler, but when I turn on the kitchen tap on at the same time the bathroom tap is on, the boiler lamp goes out. Any ideas please?

I just found this thread whilst looking for information on the Alpha CB24.

Our CB24 has been losing pressure as well. It's okay whilst the boiler is operating, but then when it's off the pressure drops down to nothing within a few hours.

The other day it popped and banged a couple of times, but hasn't done it since. Also the other day there was some water coming out of the overflow pipe, but it was only a trickle, which stopped after a short while.

Since then it has been operating normally, but with the aforementioned pressure drop.

The boiler was installed new in 2003, then in November 2007 it started playing up with similar behaviour. Our plumber installed a new pressure vessel, which cost £101 +VAT for parts and labour.

Is it likely that the same item has failed again after only 26 months? Is this an acceptable lifespan for such a part? The boiler lasted four years from new before it needed the first repair.

    Thanks very much.
  • I wonder if someone could advise/point me in the right direction.

I've started having a problem with my 'Worchester Bosch 35 CDi' boiler.

Recently the Hot Water has sterted being a bit funny. When i initally turn the tap on it come out boiling hot. However, it thenm becomed tepid and will not heat up. Even thought hte bioler is set to MAX.

    The central heating works fine.

The boiler is is just over 2 years old...sods law isn't it...it had a 2 year warrenty on it.

I have the exact same problem. I got a plumber out but he wasn't sure. He said the gas pressure was low to the boiler but that was the only fault he could find but he didn't convince me that was causing my hot water problem.

Did you get your problem resolved FeelingSkint? Anyone else seen this?

Could be the diaphragm getting stretched and weak.

Has the inlet filter been checked for blockages?

Hi I have a problem with a combi boiler and was hoping someone could help me out please.

Boiler was working fine until Boiler man came out for his yearly check.

Then it was making a lot of noise. Anyway it has this round red plastic tank on the back which I guess should hold the water.

On top is a release valve such like the ones found on bicycle tyres.

In my haste to stop the noise I pressed this valve and lots of air came out, then water (Which is when I stopped pressing it).

At 1st this seemed to have done the trick and boiler was running quiet again.
(I was thinking that sneaky boiler engineer did this on purpose - adding air)

However, within a couple of days it got to be worse than ever before.

Now it sounds like a Sherman tank and does not heat water or radiators.

Also when it is switched on it seems as if it is blowing itself out as the flames have orange in them and keep looking like they revert back and forth to the pilot light (as you see when heating is switched off).

Yikes... what can I do.. is it because I let the air out? Do I need a bicycle pump and pump some air back in via that valve?!

Thanks for any help in advance.
    Much appreciated.

(My landlord is busy replacing my roof, I dare not ask him for a new boiler too).
  • Hi

You don't have to ask for a new boiler just a new red round metal tank (AKA the expansion vessel.)

    GSR.
Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
  • Is there nothing I an do to stop this myself.
Do you know what the cause of this problem is?

Is it a leaky valve perhaps? It has a cap that goes over it rather tightly.
Also it doesn't always loose pressure, just sometimes.

But it only warms water now and never heats it up fully.
Also it rattles like hell and looks like it is gonna blow.
As I say flames also now have some orange in them when used to be blue like a bunsten burner.

Slightly off-topic: My bath tap is also knackered. I have to wiggle it around and lift it up just to get water to come out of it and even then at a slow pace. I guess whatever opens the hole to let the water out is knackered... No idea how to replace that either.

Hi, I have the Halstead ACE 24 combi boiler and we have just realised that when we have turned the hot taps on, one of the radiators and the towel rail is coming on.
Any ideas what could be causing it?

    Thanks x

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone could give me advice on what could be causing the noises coming from my boiler? It's a Bosch condensing combi boiler. It works fine when it's on, however when I switch off the central heating, it starts making loud thumping noises about 4 hours after it's switched off. To stop it happening, I've been turning the thermostat up and down, instead of switching it off. That was ok over the winter but with the milder weather finally arriving, I'm looking forward to switching the central eating off for a couple of months, it must be costing a fortune.
