Squeaky - hope you have a safe and not too tireing a journey and that things are much improved when you get there.
Quite what we will do in your absence is anyones guess cos the indexed do-dah's are a complete mystery to all but you, we'll never manage our own searches.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

I can't possibly thank you all individually so I tapped the thanks button, like you do, but please each be assured that it's a heartfelt thank you, and not just a "thanks for posting" thing.
I know for sure the old !!!!!! was lying when he talked about his chances - you do that when it's tough for those around you. But I've been on the wrong end of a 70/30 operable chance (the only big odds I've EVER won) and I KNOW what it all sounds like.
I had to talk to my Dad on the phone and we each knew the score - I made damn sure I told him I knew, in so many words, and in a whole few less ('cos he's like that) he acknowledged.
So we each said our goodbyes without actually saying so, without saying that word, and without anyone who could overhear him, (mum and two siblings), in any way shape or form get the slightest clue as to what we were talking about and yet be still very clear to each other just what we were saying.
One of the first coherent things he said when he came round was "Richard's coming up soon"

Thank you all, and really, it's all gone well and we're over the tough stuff.
I'm not quite sure when you consider your own mortality, but most of us recognise that "one day" we're going to have to say goodbye to our parents.
It's the old saw "In peacetime sons bury their fathers, and in wartime father's bury their sons."
I was pretty sure, given my old life style, that I would never have to do this. Even my new one isn't going to change much, for me.
But all of a sudden my father is mortal. At least, thank goodness, I'll get the time to say everything I need to say.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
