:mad:I currently have no connection to a BT landline. I was previously with them (about 5 years ago) but have been recently informed by them that I am no longer connected to the exchange box anymore.
If I want to be reconnected it will cost me £124.99 (Outrageous)
I want to get Broadband at home but am not in a VIRGIN/cable catchment area.
All the companies that say you dont have to pay BT line rental are correct but you still initially have to have a BT line connected and they will take it over.
I have looked at the mobile connections to the internet (Mobile internet dongles e.t.c) but the download speeds they offer are too slow.
Any suggestions... Please Help me!!!
Kindest Regards

If you refer to http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=928729 , they are doing 29.99 instead of 124.99 pounds provided if you stay with them for at least 18 months by signing a contract.0 -
Some providers that provide telephone services could provide you with a line, and you pay them line rental - but they are lazy and choose not to get involved in setting up a new line for customers. They expect you to go to BT, then move to them - but if you do it within BTs minimum contract period (like many of them do not say you are doing), then you also have to pay BT the early exit fee.0

Try mobile broadband, look at 02, Three, Vodafone or T-Mobile for a 3G USB stick.
The bonus is that you don't need a line.
And if you go down this route, don't forget quidco.
A cheaper alternative if you have a mobile phone on contract, is to get the fixed rate internet for the phone as an extra e.g. £7.50 on T-Mobile for web n walk, and use your phone as a USB modem. If you are happy to do this each time you need the internet, it will work out cheaper than a USB stick mentioned above (which is a seperate contract).0 -
Dear :j XPLORA:j
:rotfl: Your a star:rotfl: ... Did exactly as you said and Wham Bam connection fee of £29.99. A Massive saving of £95.
The three staff I spoke to over the phone at BT didnt even know about this... (Or just did not wanna tell me!!!)
Ill look around now for internet service providers as I have to wait at least 2 to 3 days after installation before I can connect (Well thats what they say anyway)
I know what im looking for from my new provider:
I will be a movie/TV show downloader so want to be able to download lots.
I want a good speed connection (none of this "upto" jibberish) just someone who can guarantee at least a figure (im only about 1/2 a mile from a main telephone exchange so should be good)
Maybe they can even give me a free wirelessmodem/router aswell?
Any Ideas... I dont expect you to know everything... but its worth a try asking ya!!!

Thanks for your appreciation, and also thanks for those who posted it earlier otherwise I doesn't know about it too. :T
I suggest you not to get BT Broadband, because they are very expensive, slow and awful as you couldn't download anything during peak hours otherwise everything will be slow up! Get something like O2. BT Broadband throttling their connection seriously where you only able to max their connection speed from 12AM-8AM as well as the P2P application. The broadband appears to be like 56k speed from 5pm-11:59pm, can't even play simple online game like warcraft 3!
I am on the way migrating from BT Broadband to O2. Yes, you only pay for 10 pounds (if you are o2 customer) for 16megs dl/1.3mbps upload compared to BT Broadband 23 pounds 8mb dl/348k upload. The upload speed is awful. 12 months contract with free router, 16/1.3, what could you expect more for 10 pounds/month? Furthermore, i heard they are not doing much on throttling their customer. Their customer service is very friendly compared to BT, where they only read scripts from their employee (awful).
Just go to http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php and put in your postcode only, to see what provider is available on your area. I'll see which is the best suit for you (from my experience). Cheers!0 -
STAY AWAY FROM MOBILE BROADBAND - it is the biggest con going.0
