hi all, i am moving into a brand new house and need a bt line.
when i enquired a few weeks ago bt said i could just have the line put in without the line rental, great i thought as i hav emy current line rental with someone else.
however just booked the installation and they are now saying i have got to signup to there £10.50 a month line rental, can they make me do this...?
and if they can , could i still have their line rental but my calls with my internet provider?? thank you

If you take a new line from BT or any other supplier come to that, they will require you to pay your line rental to them.BT,s new line rental contract is for 12 or 18 months and if you cease it early you will be subject to a cancellation fee.
You can CPS your calls to another supplier if you are with BT for line rental ,BT are the only supplier that allow you to do this.To get free / virtually free caller display from BT you must place a couple of inclusive or chargeable calls through them a month. This can be done by using the BT 1280 override code.0 -
I've a barn that needs a completely new phone line installing, I'm in remote Cornwall where VirginMedia do not operate, is BT my only option ?
Thanks, Tim0 -
You can use any Telco which offers a BT line installation service. Plusnet, Madasafish, The Post Office, BT, The Phone Co-op are some of your options.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0

I don't think you'll find any which can beat BT's current £29.99 (with strings) offer though.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I guess there's an arguement for not having a landline at all if I can score a decent mobile/internet deal, but that's a whole other story .....0

Similarly, you can use 1899, 18185 or 18866 prefixes to route individual calls via those indirect access providers if you have account(s) with them.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. What option(s) are you on?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. That is probably going to be a stupid question, but what do they mean by an inclusive call like my free weekend call? Would that be enough not to get charged for the answering machine?0
