Be careful with contacting other bidders you can get done with interfering with other auctions!

best thing to do is just report them! and like someone else has said, if you are using photobucket replace the picture with a couple of words saying something rude or funny...like "I am a plonker" ;)

    like this one for eg:

I hate when this happens as it is also fraud- the real item they may be selling may look nothing like the photo they have stolen- thats IF they really have the item.I always report them and every time ebay has pulled the listing.I also email anyone else who they have stolen listings from and people and usually grateful for this.
I never intefere with their bidders as ebay always takes care of this.
I had on person who stole my photos ( and regularily stole photos) had feedback saying the item was not like the product advertised- so what seems to some people as tit for tat can actually be quite a serious matter.
  • Oops - didn't realise that you were not allowed to copy other peoples pics and info (although usually edited theirs to personalise my version)

    Can I get into trouble?

    - Yes, this is a hanging offence  but if you're lucky you'll just get life (after the mandatory torture of having to listen to an hour of someones awful jokes... ) :rotfl:

You can definitely get into trouble. Every auction that pinched my pictures/description were pulled by eBay upon reporting it (except one that closed early with BIN). Seems eBay take this sort of thing very seriously.

best thing to do is email the previous seller and ask if they mind! a lot of people don't if you ask! its just courtesey! Although when I first started on ebay (When it wasn't such a big deal) I had a folder on my computer called "Stealing Pics" :) I edited the photo by changing the background colour! ....not anymore though cos I have a decent camera now! ;)

Well its now over 36 hours since I first reported it and the listing is still there. Nice to know you can count on eBay - not!

I can honestly say that if someone copied my listing after it had completed then it wouldn't bother me at all, slightly 'pee' me off if my auction was live but not to the point I would report.
just my feelings on the subject.

  • Regardless of the fact that some people don't mind having their auction copied, one should still not feel that one can do so fairly - many highly resent such a course, and so do eBay to a great extent.
  • On the one hand I would not do it myself
On the other hand it is not, in my opinion, the crime of the century.
On the third hand what if you do an advert by picking the best bits out of several other ads. ?
