If I was asked then I really wouln't have minded very much, but when I saw that out if 8 items this person has on sale she has copied the text/photo's of 6 of them straight off I thought it was a bit of a cheek - especially for one person, as there are only two of this particular item for sale on the whole of ebay and she has pinched their photo - who knows if the quality of items she is selling as good as the rest of us?

On the other hand it is not, in my opinion, the crime of the century. On the third hand what if you do an advert by picking the best bits out of several other ads. ?

I didn't suggest it was the crime of the century - as I said its cheeky and annoying!

At least pinching bits out of a number of ads is creative! I doubt anyone would even notice that!
  • It is a kind of back handed compliment. Wouldn't do it myself as I think bidders should see the item I'm selling so they get a true interpretation of what they are buying (perhaps not new stuff but definitely used stuff).

The few times I have used an image off the net I always put "stock photo" as a comment so bidders know they're not seeing a picture of the actual item on sale.

Stealing from one source is plagiarism. Stealing from many sources is research

Agreed, however, perhaps people fail to appreciate the time and effort put into writing the description and taking the pictures.

I'd say that if, having considered the possible negative effects on buyers, you still really want to copy a description (pictures are a bad idea in general), always ask the seller first if they'd mind - but be prepared for a "no", and accept it if it comes!

  • I agree with those who say it takes time to do all this writing up and presenting etc.. I take ages over my own auctions in terms of piccies and description and would be highly miffed if it were theived as it involved hard labour for myself!

I actually did something similar, though not with objectionable material - I substituted an image informing viewers to buy from MY auctions! I subequently received an apologetic email from the seller.

What does this mean? I know I am leaving myself open to ridicule but I don't get it...................

    Also
Have you used a photobucket type place for the picture?

Sometimes, they copy the link too ................ then you can have fun!!!!

What does photobucket mean and how do you do it???

    In ignorance, yours...................

Hosting your own pictures is when you save your pictures on the Internet instead of saving them on eBay - you then link to them in the HTML of your listing.

Photobucket is a site where you can save your pictures - ImageShack is another.
