All those packet mixes for bolognese, cheese sauce, pancakes etc remind me of the story about Stone Soup, by Hans Christian Andersen maybe (?).
If anyone doesn't know it I'll enlighten them!

I've been lurking for a while. I fess up as I student I bought ready meals, mashed potato powder etc. Since I got married nad had my little one, I have changed my thought process on convenience( spelling) food.
I re-coil in horror when other parents say they give their kids pre-processed tastless muck. My toddler is 15 months old and has never had any of that. I find it easier, cheaper and more satisfying not mention yummier to make her food from scratch. As for us I make most things from scratch. My most useful tool, as I'm sure most will agree is my slow cooker.0 -
I have a friend who feeds her kids absolute crap then wonders why they're ill and small for they're age, uhh maybe cos they eat virtually no fruit or veg!
I myself am partial to a ready meal every now and then and i do buy FROZEN MASH as i cannot make it i've tried different potatoes, different cooking times, different ways of mashing and i still cant make it so i buy it when i go past and iceland as all theirs contains is potatoes, milk and seasoning whereas the sainsburys one contains all sorts.
If i see the ready cut vegs reduced i will sometimes buy them.
i think life is too short to worry about whether you sometimes use a ready meal or pre-prepared thing or twoOther women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0 -
I'm not a fan of ready meals but chopped/frozen veg, tinned apples slices and ready made custard, even sliced anad grated cheese, yorkies and roast pots are a godsend when when my wrists flare up and I can barely hold a knife. I used to snear at people that did but now know better - the hard way.
I have a food processor but sometimes cant even manage to open it! I wish some one would design one that is easier to use. I realise they have to put in safety features but they make it hard for people like me to to open and close.
Yes, I have a family but they moan so much when asked to help I would rather do it myself.NSD 0/150 -
Fivenations I can totally sympathise! I have tendonitis in my wrists and although it's getting better (thanks to resting lots and my anti inflamatories) then I still get the occasional bad session where I struggle with driving, holding a glass and even brushing my teeth!
got round by having lots of prepped stuff in my freezer when my hands aren't bad. So I buy fresh and organic and then chop and prepare and freeze it myselfMight be worth trying?

My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
My ex-housemate used to buy lots of the ready made crumble mixes and cake mixes etc. I often tried to tell her it would be cheap and better for us all to make our own but would she listen??? like heck she would!
The cakes she made always tased of the rubbish they put in them - they were awful.
Now she has gone I am getting back to more of my way of cooking and feel much better for it.0
