I was thinking of signing up but FD using your personal data for marketing and credit rating purposes...!!!!!!?!
I used FD internet banking plus for 4 years prior to joining them and didn't receive any marketing, other than an a occasional ad on the internet banking plus website.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

How do you know - each time you spoke to an FD telephone advisor they may have had sight of your savings elsewhere and have recommended you a savings product or not offered you a credit card because you had credit balances elsewhere.

I have just installed this on my new laptop which is running Windows 7 64-bit, but I can't seem to be able to download the ActiveX. Any ideas?

I have been using it for years with my other laptop which runs 32-bit.

Thanks for that :) Put everything in one place
  • My geeky side is massively tempted by this - Many aspects would be idea for me.
What form does it take for the user?
ie; A standalone app, or is it some kind of browser based webapp which only runs in IE?

The webapp method would seem like a disappointment in that you still need to use "extra" software such as IETab, and keep all those IE components installed.

A standalone app seems like the better option for a user, particularly for security purposes, as it won't be carrying all the security vulnerabilities that browsers come with etc..

My only reservation is the bank's response if anything ever did go wrong.
I totally hear the poster above who states that any sensible user who keep their security up to date should not have any problem with aggregation software per-se, as in some 90's-film style hacker breaks in & yoinks all your details - bah, silliness.

However, if some other issue ever cropped up, and there was a dispute I wouldn't put it past any commercial business to use it against you - I guess what's important is if the bank can actually tell that any given instruction came from the site-proper, or from aggregation software.

For the way the conversation has gone, all the talk about banks using the info from other accounts for commercial reasons, then that makes me think the banks are very much aware if you're using aggregation software (particularly if it's browser-based).

(ps: Sorry if some of this sounds obvious)

For anyone coming to this late, it doesn't work with 64-bit IE. You have to use the 32-bit version, which is also supplied with Windows 7.
