    Surprised it doesn't work on a Apple Mac.

    I'm not. It uses ActiveX - only available on Windows machines.

    I've just signed up for First Direct Internet Banking Plus and while I obviously enjoy the fact that it's free I'm assuming they might charge for the privilege in future (as I'm not a customer of theirs)

    Would they have to inform me before they start charging? How much time would they give, as in could I cancel the services without having to pay?

    I know. It's just typical though. Buy a Mac - a superior machine to a PC anyway ;) - and you find that the really useful stuff hasn't been made compatible with it...:D
    Is it Intel-based? How about using VMWARE? http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
    You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:

    Can anyone assist? Or should I remove as not relevant and make my way to the techie section?

    Tools > IE Tab Options > Add in

    https://*.ewise.com.au/*

    Opening any page on their site will happen in an IE Tab automatically. (Look for the IE icon in the tab.)

    They presumably sell it to Egg and First Direct etc. They certainly don't advertise their own service to customers. (Or I've never seen them do so - the fact it's difficult to find their service leads me to this.)

    First Direct and Egg use the information they obtain for marketing. The service can be useful but you need to be aware that all your account information that you see is seen by them and collected (except passwords etc).
    Extracts from the FD terms and conditions -

    How are my account details kept secure and secret?
    Your 1st Account IDs and passwords are private to you, and first direct strongly believe they should stay that way. Your details will be encrypted and securely stored in the digital safe, which is created personally for you and stored on your PC. first direct have no way of viewing this information and it is used only from your PC to log on to your accounts in the same way that you would access them if you were doing it yourself.

    When you access and use the internet banking plus service you may provide us with or we may automatically receive information about you or your Accounts (including your Account Information). You may only use the internet banking plus service if you agree to allow us to receive and use such information for the purposes set out in these Terms and Conditions. However, this does not affect your right to opt out of marketing.

    "Account Information": the balance details of your Accounts and any other information made available by the relevant Organisation and which you access through the internet banking plus service;
    We collect information from you: every time you update your Account details or your Account Information in your Personal Area
    • We collect the following information from you: the type of Accounts that you registered in your Personal Area and the Account Information, including the nature of your transactions on those Accounts;
    10.4.1 We will use your personal information collected from your use of the internet banking plus service (including your Account Information) for the following purposes:
    • to provide targeted marketing information and personalised banners to you depending on your marketing preferences selected during the application process for the internet banking plus service, or any preferences subsequently notified to us. By personalised banners we mean targeted adverts or information about products or services we think may be of interest to you based on your information. Generic banners are untargeted and will be presented to all users of the service;
    • to assist in credit management which may include making decisions about you or others at your address(es) on credit or credit-related products or services or motor, household, credit, life or any other insurance facilities or proposals. It may also be used for debtor tracing, debt recovery, fraud prevention, claims assessment and verifying identity.
  • I'm glad this post has resurfaced. I've just looked at FD's offering and it does one thing that Accountunity doesn't....it allows you to list all your liabilitiy and asset accounts separately and gives you a "net worth" figure. I've been copy/pasting the values from Accountunity into Excel and doing these calcualtions manually so having the internet banking plus site do this for me is a real plus.

    It's a pity it doesn't allow you to save your logins to a removable media as these will all need setting up again if/when I ever need to re-install Windows. Does anyone know what registry key these settings are held in?

    Just seen this message on FD internet banking plus website:

    There are 3 new organisations that can be accessed via internet banking plus:
    • Asda card
    • Birmingham Midshires current account
    • GE money card
    All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

    The company might care about security, but the people who wrote the platform it runs on (that would be Microsoft), don't. ActiveX and IE do not have a very good security record.

    I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole. I like having different passwords and access codes for my accounts - bit of extra security. Aggregrating them like this is asking for trouble.

    Be warned!
