ALL car companies use third party suppliers for virtually everything. I'd not be quibbling over service items. I'd not worry about any warranties because they fitted the parts and it's on the invoice.

Unless you specifically requested genuine Ford parts, you don't have a case TBH.

I did and I was assured it will be. Besides, it is a Ford service garage.
I am off now to another local dealer to check what they use.

    Dear LandAndy

    Thank you for your reply.

Me, wanting to be fair, I am asking what to do. Me, by checking with other garages about what they do, I will understand why these parts were fitted in my car.

I hope you don't mind stopping posting anything of no use to me. If you have nothing better to do other than being unhelpful here, I would strongly recommend going to the Moneysavings Arms or the discussion board and do your bits of sarcasim over there as you will be much more appreciated than posting such a silly post in this thread.

If you are one of those who, when they get ripped off, just get on with there lives, and dream about not being ripped off again in the future, then, your input is not welcomed in this thread.

Usually, your posts are helpful, I don't know what's wrong with you today?

You haven't been ripped off. You got a part replaced for free, a 10% discount on your bill, a job done on your vehicle using OE parts as you requested and now you want find another way to kick the garage.

I don't usually make posts with that tone (well not too often;) ) but sometimes I think there is more to life than proving an empty point.

I will of course continue to post wherever I like:cool: .

Anyway life is too short to fall out over these things so:kisses3: .

    PS: pm'd you.

    No worries

What annoys me most, I paid more money for the non genuin kit (£74 +VAT) than what a Ford's timing kit would have been (£79 inc. VAT!!). So the 10% discount is gone there.

I called the garage and asked about this. They said they couldn't secure the auxillary belt in time, so they had to go for the second best ( £22+VAT and Ford's one is £22 inc. VAT!!) I said to them, I have booked the car 2 weeks in advance and that was more than reasonable time to secure the belt. They said Yes, true!!. I asked what about the timing kit and the water pump? They said the will give me a call back later. If I wanted a second best, I could have taken it to a second best garage.

Ford call centre don't want to know about this and advised to speak to the dealer's principle.

Other two dealer's said these are no way to be a Ford parts numbers hence it is a third party parts. And if there was a Ford stamp on it, they should have the standard 7 digits used for Ford's spare parts. And thye don't know why would a Ford service centre use a third party kit and charge for more what a Ford stamped part would cost!

The free part I had was because they didn't use the best way to get it off. Surely if they broke the lights or anything else, they should foot the bill. Their master technician was not happy with them and he agreed from a quick glance at it that it was not removed with care.
Besides, the car had 3 new scratches after it has been to them. I know this because I polished and waxed the car a week before. I pointed them out to the service manager asking him to pay more attention in the future and I am not bothered as it is seven years old car. Even the front bumper was a very tiny bit out of true as if the car has been pushed and hit something. I showed him this as well, and again I said I am not bothered because it would be silly to fix it. (Even though I know, in theory, I should have the car back in the same condition it was booked in, cosmeticly)

All I wanted was Ford's parts to be fitted to my Ford car by a Ford garage to maintain the " Main dealer's" service history to make the car more salable should I want to replace it in the future, is this too much to ask?

fruedenberg make the damper as said before ford dont make there own parts
  • Hi again

Right, I have just had a phone call from the garage and they admitted they have fitted non genuine Ford part even thoguh they qouted and charged me for genuine parts. They said they are not happy with what has happened and it was a mistake done by the parts department as they gave them the prices for genuine parts but supplied non genuine parts!!

Anyway, they said they do whatever I am happy with. I said ideally, I would want to have the Ford timing kit, water pump and auxillary belt fitted to the car. They said, if that what you want, then that what they are going to do for me! I said, I will give them a ring tomorrow and tell them what to do and when.

I am now in a bit of dilemma. Replacing whatever in the car now will be a waste and there will be noway of telling if they are going to do it or not! ( Getting cynical now!) They can have the car in and then print a new invoice showing genuine parts numbers and here you go. But seriously, I know it is unlikely they do this ( just printing a new invoice)

What do you think? Any suggestions? A free service? The non genuine parts refund? 50% off? Just go and get the Ford timing kit and the rest replaced and move on?

    Many thanks

  • My car has Bilstein shocks. Bosch relays. Bosch fuel pumps. The list goes on.

The point is that I can buy them from the Mercedes dealer and pay their prices. Or I can buy exactly those same parts, that don't have a Mercedes logo on them, and pay half the price, from ECP.

Stop worrying about it. The parts on your car will be fine. Get them to valet the car or something, it really isn't important.

thunderbird, i used to go to the gates factory in dumfries, they make most manufacturers timing and auxilliary belts, they design, manufacturer and test the belts and pulleys for the car manufacturers, ford, rover and land rover being thier bigger customers.
i wouldnt worry about ford fitting a gates belt kit at a dealership, its just came in a different box thats all.

also gates make belts for almost every engine, most folk (myself included) will always recommend fitting a gates belt over anything else. they are market leaders for quality.
