yes, i did wonder if it should have been equal amounts of water to grain, this is how i do rice, which is always perfect, one mug of rice to one mug of water

so i think ive added too much water

My hubby calls it scarey rice :rotfl:

I stick it in a bowl with a teaspoon of veg stock powder or some cous-cous seasoning, pour over the boiling water and cover with a plate. Fluff it up a bit and mix with whatevers left over - sweetcorn/chicken/fajita sauce/peppers ..... actually planning this for lunch tomorrow :D

My favourite way of prepping couscous is mostly from Mr T's packaging.

    7oz couscous
    9fl oz boiling water
    1oz butter
    pinch of salt

Combine all except water in bowl.

    Add water and stir

Cover with cling film or tight fitting lid for 10 mins

    Uncover, fluff with fork, serve.

Our variation includes chopped dried apricots, sweet mixed spice, zest and juice of an orange.

This is very good when you're caravanning/camping too.

I look forward to trying zippys recommendation as I am trying to be a good OSer by making stock from my chicken carcasses and am looking for alternatives to soup and risotto :o

:rotfl: you and me both, had enough of it when hubby and I were in Tunisia, every meal seemed couscous based, even breakfast!
That was 18 years ago and hubby and I still can't eat the stuff.

While we are on the bubject of couscous, guys, I have a question of my own...

I have some recipies in which you put the couscous in a couscous steamer with other ingredients (raw chicken etc.) until they are all cooked. I tried to find a picture of one online to see what one looks like, and they look like big vegetable steamers to me, but I assume that they must have smaller holes else the couscous will just fall through. Does anyone have one and know whether the holes are really small or not? Thanks!:)

Flavoured couscous is simply delicious - I've got some from France called epices du monde. It takes only a few minutes to cook, well, to boil the water, anyway, then lasts till you need it, or you can reheat, covered, in a microwave. It freezes, cooked, so it's ready to go in seconds.

Best of all - it NEEDS NO PEELING!

My 2 loved it when they were little :) I've found a salad recipe using couscous, fresh orange. and fresh herbs.

There's another thread here, that I'll add this to later.

I think cous cous is nicest in a Moroccan style.

I like it with garlic, red and yellow peppers, onion, sultanas, paprika, cinnamon, ground ginger and tumeric all fried up in a bit of olive oil (or fry light for Slimming world!) and then bung in some tomatoes and mix it with the cous cous. Normally I would serve it with lamb, but it can be a veggie dish too.

    Hope you enjoy!
I've been looking for a moroccan couscous recipe, it's so delicious and I can't work out what's in it! I had assumed turmeric gave it the colour.

Any tried and tested moroccan couscous recipes?!?!? :) I love marksies one
but of course would rather eat my own fingers than pay that price!:p
