ok hate to admit to this , but i found a open box of cous cous about 2 years out of date:eek:. We prob would of eaten it had it been sealed but open i not too keen.
Is there anything i can do with it apart from throw ? i was thinking maybe pouring the boiling water on , letting it swell up and put it out for birds , Would they eat it ? , can they eat it ? or should i just throw?0 -
TBH I'd eat it... You need to be careful re the birds, if it dries out then it'll lose all the liquid and if they then eat it, it'll be like they're eating uncooked rice which will kill them.
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

I'd eat it too! As long as it didn't smell/look mouldy or have and bugs in, that is.
Feeding it to the birds should be fine as long as you give it sparingly and it's cooked well. Couscous on its own isn't that nutritious (unless it's whole wheat) so I'd mix it with some lard or suet to give them a bit more energy.
Oh, and if it is off don't give it to the birdies!Dry January: 31/31 days. :T0 -
I'd eat it if it's been kept dry it should be fineDecluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20

Smell it first, old cous cous can have a rancid smell like old oil and it is impossible to disguise the flavour0

Hi i have lots of couscous and wanted some cheap and exciting recipesMFW 2016 No 68 £1300/£8500 No new toiletries Cook sth different0

Well, here cous cous is what we have with something else, not a main component, for example chicken/fish and cous cous. I guess you could mix it with various veggies, like mushrooms/peppers/peas and sweetcorn - although I tend to mix that with brown rice, which I could happily live on
I'm sure someone will come along soon with better suggestions.0 -
Hi Skaps!
I use this method, and throw in what ever i have. Nuts, seeds, lemon juice, chilli peri peri, dried fruit, any veg, grapes or bits of fruit, what ever. Seeds toasted. Always delicious. Doesnt even need meat, or you could use tuna or prawns or anything! Mabe treat it the same way you would rice?
There is a whole thread - exciting things to do with couscous, so I'll add this one to that one later.Do have a read at the suggestions there too. It's such a versatile food delicious hot or cold.
Thanks
