An update.
Dished it up to the kids and i was GOBSMACKED at the response! They all wanted 2nd's and they turned down the chicken and wanted the couscous and salsa (although youngest picked out the red onions) This is something that i have been asked to make again although i couldnt find any stock cubes. This is what i done..
Couscous, boiling water, knob of butter and left it to do 'its stuff'. Then added red onions, red/yellow peppers and sweetcorn.
I was also surprised at the price of it! Half a packet fed 5 of us and it costs 69p! Very cheap meal. Am i correct in thinking its low fat too?

Yes it is low fat. Did you also get the magic porridge pot effect? The more you eat, the more there is left on your plate :rotfl:de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0

Hiya
I've only had couscous plain, with meat... have just brought a bag and am not entirely sure what to do with it. Does anyone have any yummy couscous recipes they could share? I do like salady things...

Make it up using a vegetable stock cube in the boiling water
Finely chop 1 red peper, 1 yellow pepper, 1 bunch spring onions, 2 sticks of celery & mix into the cous cous.
Add a generous handful of sultanas or raisins, and the same of pine nuts.
Eat!0 -

Hi skintmumof3,
You can add any amount of things to couscous....stock instead of water, mint sauce or other flavourings, vegetables, peppers, mushrooms, garlic, sultanas etc.
There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas so I'll add your post to it so that so that you can browse the suggestions.

Easiest ever way to flavour couscous is to mix a spoonful of salad dressing through it. I've done this with several different kinds of salad dressing, and it has worked well every time. Have also had it with a splodge of pesto or similar. Couscous must be one of the fastest and easiest things on the planet to cook :-)0

hmm yeah i had couscous for my lunch...
I love bacon fried with some red peppers and red onions. T
hen mix into the cooked couscous with a tiny bit of low fat salad dressing.
I then mico the lot (if it's gone cold) and mix it into a huge pile of finely chopped ice burg lettuce and avocado.
Hot bacon and avocado salad ...... ... take 5 minutes to make ... yum. This months aim :- Stick to food Budget / find £100 for my car insuranceMay GC :- £250/£234.55 :T:A:TJune GC :- £150/£127.37:eek:0 -
Hello,
Just wondering - if I get some of this stuff, what can I do with it? Is it filling, like rice? Do you serve hot or cold? What meals can I make with it? Never used it before...!
