If this is the same survey I completed they do not say that they are planning paypal only. It was a question about the impact on sales IF they went paypal only. See my thread about this here.

'Sellers will need to acquire a Merchant Account from a bank or other provider' Could this not include Google Checkout?

Yes it can - I use it now. I list credit card payments on eBay and send everyone who asks to pay by card a Google Checkout invoice.

I also use Google Checkout as a merchant account provider for my ecommerce site.

The eBay policy says "Sellers with their own merchant credit card processing account, and those who use a third-party credit card processor, may also offer their buyers the option of paying directly with a credit card online (including through third party checkout) or by phone."

    Which covers Google Checkout.

    It also says:

Sellers may not solicit: Payment through online payment methods not specifically permitted in this policy.

and Third party checkout is specifically permitted!

    However this then conflicts with:

Please see the Some Examples section below for permitted and non-permitted online payment services.

Which lists Google Checkout as non permittted.

And the end of the day, If you use Google Checkout without mentioning the name there is nothing they can do about it. Its just another merchant account provider. Except of course with no start up or rental fees and much cheaper than Paypal!

I did it yesterday and it specifically states that they are planning to implement it. It does mention that they havnt decided which flavour or where yet though.

That's not how I remember it. There were 2 scenarios as per my 1st post and they wanted opinion on the impact on sales if 1 or the other was implemented. My estimate was 10% down with paypal only as I would lose a few sales to buyers who used cheques/PO and 10% up with the merchant account or paypal as I may pick up sales from paypal haters or who have been banned.
Perhaps there is another PS on here who can copy all the survey for us.

I completed one too and it didn't say they were going Paypal only, I think that's what the questionnaire was canvassing opinion for though.

Can't say it will have any real effect on me as long as they sort out the PITA that is echeques.

    They wont remove echeques.

They get to get the money with no credit card fees and still charge the seller 2.6% or whatever!

Thats why ebay tries to force you to pay from your bank account by default and displays a highly misleading accept changes screen when you try to change it!

Most of my UK and EU sales are paid for by bank transfer or MoneyBookers. Both are much safer for sellers. Buyers are protected by our 100% feedback going back 8+ years on eBay and Amazon.

Must we have such an alarmist thread title?
We all accept it's inevitable... no sense getting people worked up when it hasn't happened yet.

I tend to agree Fay, I think once ebay have sorted out the problems with ebay Australia and know they can make 'paypal only' work it will only be a matter of time before we get it here.It might not be this year, but I think it will happen. Even if they don't force it through for a while how many buyers realistically use a cheque book or bank transfer when every single auction now has paypal as an option.
