Just completed a sellers survey. Here are a couple of questions about payment methods offered and how it will affect sales -
To make eBay a safer place to buy and sell, sellers will be limited to accepting only the following safer payment methods for their eBay sales:

I opted for the second scenario obviously! Looks like cheques & PO's are out soon by the way they are thinking however the personal collection bit could be something of a U turn.

If anyone opts for the first option they work for ebay!
Cheques and PO's are still a very valuable payment option, cheques may be fiddly but for larger amounts they're a god send as PayPal fee's are simple ludicrous (thats why when can we push google checkout).
...and also lets not forget BACS transfers....there's a real opening for them now they are (fairly) instant. Ebay will want to get them outlawed asap, no doubt.0 -
Hmm, so the options are basically paypal only or paypal and card payments to a merchant account.
Once again a break is allowed for larger powerselelrs who may have a merchant aco!!!!, obviously the smaller selelrs won't have access to these merchant aco!!!! due to the high fees involved.
There is another thread running that I posted on yesterday about cash on collection. I quoted a pink from yesterday who stated categorically that cash on colelction woul dnever be an option..but it looks like it is still being thought about.
Interesting though that cheques, postal orders and BACS don't feature anywhere in the survey options.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Don't forget though that if you mention Google in your auctions you will get a warning and a possible suspension as it is specifically disallowed on ebay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Cant believe no one is fighting eBay on anti competitiveness by forcing people to use Paypal. I presume other payment services (Google/Worldpay etc) offer some protection to buyer as well?0

It is nothing to do with protection, ebay own paypal so obviously have a motive for moving towards paypal only.
There is a long thread about the paypal only changes on the ebay forum that makes an interesting read. There is talk on there of an action in Australia against ebay , but it is quite confusing reading the thread to see what is actually happening as it is sometimes moderated which makes the posts come out wrong. There is also the problem that many sellers are actually 'for' the changes and not against, so whilst trying to read about this court action you get bogged down in online figting as well.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. 'Sellers will need to acquire a Merchant Account from a bank or other provider' Could this not include Google Checkout?0

Google isn't a true merchant account , real merchant accounts involve a retailer taking payments directly from a card through their own system supplied by a bank. They are blooming expensive to runI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I just completed a Power Seller survey for eBay.
In it it stated that eBay were planning to make the ONLY payment options on eBay Paypal or cash on collection!!!0 -
Suits me - I only buy and sell using paypal and get annoyed when people want to send a cheque especially as it is in my auctions that I only accept paypal so that I can get their item dispatched as soon as possible.
I had horrendous abuse a few weeks ago from a buyer who had lost her bank card and had to cancel it so could not use paypal. Everyone I know it is their accounts that is linked to paypal and not the card is only there as a back up. I think she just had the hump and wanted someone to take it out on!
I know there is a lot of people that this wont suit if it happens but it is welcome to me!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!
