This has got me thinking how much cleaning a day is 'normal' for most people?

I would estimate i spend approx 8-9 hours cleaning and doing the laundry in a day is that not normal?

No it most certainly is not. You need help. You have an obsession.

I wonder if it's my ex-husbands mother? She must do that in a typical day!

The kitchen benches and bathroom are scrubbed daily.
The whole house is hoovered and dusted daily, even the spare bedrooms that nobody uses.
The kitchen is hoovered after each meal.
Shoes are banned in the house. You must leave them in the hall or she tells you off.
Clothes are worn for 1 day. The next day they are washed, dried, ironed and returned to the drawers/wardrobe.
She doesn't like freezers, so she goes to the shop everyday and buys the food she needs for that day.

She's the only person I have ever met who dusts her Christmas cards

On the downside, it was a nightmare stopping there. The sofa was covered in those embroidered over back covers and arm covers. You were scared to move in case you creased them or creased the cushions.

Nobody was allowed in the kitchen but her, as she doesn't trust anyone elses cooking apart from restaurants. All offers of help were refused, and if you fancied a coffee, you couldn't go and make one and had to wait until you were offered one.

If I went in the bath, I was reminded over and over that I was only allowed 4" of hot water, and she'd be waiting on the landing to clean the bath, the minute I left the bathroom. I once didn't wash my face properly and got a brown smudge of eyemake up on a towel. It washes out easily but she went crackers about it!
Here I go again on my own....

What do you do that takes 8-9 hours of cleaning a day to put right? I mean, when you're making cereal do you chuck the milk into the bowl from the other side of the kitchen? Do you do finger painting with the kids on the living room walls? When frying an egg do you flip it like a pancake thus spreading oil all over the ceiling? Do you encourage your children to 'roll' home from school making sure that they hit every puddle?

WHY do you need to do that much cleaning

    Wierdo!!!
