My Mother in Law purchased a LCD in Currys and it was the same software that I have on my ASDA purchase the only difference is the infared receiver is square instead of round.
Ooooh wow, that must mean they're the same if they have the same software - does that mean my mates macbook pro is the same as one of our knackered old work PC's as they both run Windows XP? No. Or if you want an even more basic example just because my laptop has a similar looking bios to another one doesn't mean it's the same motherboard/cpu etc inside even though the menu system in there is identicle.
Yes lots of LCD's have the same panel (as there are only a few major manufacturers) but the rest of the electronics in there can vary wildly and will affect quality of image and longevity of the set.0 -

Not five years in Scotland, it's five years from discovery. So if you discover the defect after two years, you get seven years to pursue damages up here. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

on the top brand versus cheap brand issue. the cheap brands usually have worse specs so how can they be just as good? most top brands have a dynamic contrast of 10000:1 minimum while an orion tv i looked at only had a 1200:1 dynamic contrast. what dynamic contrast is i dont have a clue but it is supposed to be something to do with the picture quality.
what is better a 1080hd tv with 50hz or a 720hd tv with 100hz? were does dynamic contrast come in as well? which is the most important? 1080hd, 100hz or a very high dynamic contrast? what can be considered a good level dynamic contrast?0 -

My mistake. Although an understandable one, I can't keep up with your strange ways and customs."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Have you seen the quality of some of the Sony Brand tv's, no better than some of the cheap brands and made in Turkey with in my opinion sub-standard components.
I had a Pannasonic which blew up within 2 years about 20 years ago - fortunately just within the JL 2 year guarantee (not 5 then) - mind you, it was fixed and lasted another 16 years0 -
I turned my TWF TV on in March and had the same experience as many of the comments posted. The set failed to turn on it made a electrical shorting sound and that was it totally dead.It was originally purchased from Macro in Leeds and yes it was out of warranty. I called around TV repairers' despite being told that LCD TV's were unfortunately difficult if not impossible to repair. I then discovered DBS at York who were able to replace the mains power switch, the cost incurred £97. Fully functioning TV once more, expensive repair though cheeper than house insurance excess or a new set. :T0

Some people cant afford expensive brands, just because they are cheap doesn't mean you shouldn't expect it to last. The law protects against it for this reason. Some people should get over themselves.0
