And then Squat Now will come along and Tesco will give him 10 cheescakes for free as they "can't give them away now". and they are almost past their sell by date.

No, Squat Now will come along and sit on the cheesecake, shouting about how wrong it is that all these cheesecakes are sitting about not being eaten and so he has a moral right to it :D

Well since you've mentioned that and we're currently talking off-topic, I'd actually come to the conclusion that you were a bloke  but since you've now admitted that you're not, I presume you are a lesbian  .

If you're not then can you please explain why you thanked and agreed with me that Seema Shah was hot in the Sky News thread on the House Prices forum about 2 weeks ago?

People don't post on the housewife forum saying "How do I make a chocolate cheesecake for a dinner party on saturday?" and get replies like:

    - You shouldn't make cheesecake it's unhealthy, look at these obesity figures
    - You should make angel delight that's much cheaper
    - Are you to stupid to realise that you can't live on just cheesecake
    - Wait 3 months because Iceland will be doing a special offer on cheesecakes, put the dinner party on hold?
    - That cheesecake won't be a resellable asset once you've eaten it.

    Cheesecake ?

    CHEEEEEEEEEEEESE CAKE ????

    A CAKE ? OF CHEESE ?????

    No, I'm gonna be sick...

GRRRR!!! It's that damn arrogance, I think house prices are too high, I hope they will fall - I expect them to fall. I haven't "forgot" - I *DO* understand however I assessed the overpricedness, the effects on our lives of private rental AST contracts and our own personal finances and situation and bought regardless.... It's not because I don't understand but because I'm in a situation where I could make the choice. I don't need you to explain why I've made a "mistake".

It's the sheer arrogance that people do not appreciate that a need for tenure and a need for housing exists regardless of the wider economic picture and that regardless of the average economic picture some will still be in a position to get on with things. Is a rich guy in a dessert making a mistake to pay a hundred pounds for the last crate of water in town?

I never said you personally had made a mistake, so there is no need to imply i am arrogant lol, I didn't say everyone had made a mistake did i? If you have looked at house prices and decided now is the best time for you to buy after considering all the options, then i congratulate you on actually looking into the matter rather then just jumping in!

You may not have made a mistake in buying a house if it's right for you at the moment, but you have made a mistake in not reading what i put about the majority. If people post on here about money problems and worries to do with their house, there is no easy way to tell people they will most likely lose money as it's not what they and other home owners want to hear as it.

Anyway back to the riveting discussion about food :rotfl:

I've got called all sorts of awful names on this forum, but as I said earlier, as house prices fall further, those who've lost lots of equity and stand, possibly, to lose their homes, get very stressed and look for someone, anyone (other than themselves, obviously) to blame. So they post attacks on anyone who dares to suggest the bleeding obvious - that prices might fall; another side of the same coin that I'm sure will see copious litigation against all the brokers/lawyers/surveyors etc who 'misled' them and 'made' them buy an overpriced property.

As I've also posted elsewhere, buying a house isn't a purely short or medium-term financial decision, but as this is a Money Saving website, rather than a let's all have a nice chat about houses and a cup of tea website, you'd expect people to proffer advice based around whether or not it is a good investment ie moneysaving. Obviously, individuals have different financial situations and priorities, but pointing out that the value of what they're about to buy will almost certainly fall soon is an act of kindness rather than a criticism; no-one should make such a major financial decision without being aware of the downsides as well as the upsides. This applies particularly to those too young to remember the last crash, who may simply not be aware of quite how bad it can get. (And let's not forget - last month's fall suggest there is a fair possibility this crash may be worse than the last. It may not be; but people should at least be aware of the risks involved.)

After all, this site is about making informed choices. Unfortunately, because buying a house is the single biggest thing virtually all of us will ever buy, you'd have to expect tempers to get more frayed than when talking about the rise in a pack of butter or how to save 50p using some coupon.

So - to return to the OP's original question - what's happened to this forum is that house prices have started falling. And as they are not expected to stop falling anytime soon, possibly you just need to be aware that house prices are a subject which cause strong emotions on both sides.

Carolt. There have been numerous occasions when you have referred to people as 'illiterate', 'stupid' and 'idiots'. Usually without provocation, because their choices were different to yours, and on the basis that their opinions differ from your own.

Unless you post that houses prices are set for a massive drop and that its foolish to buy now, expect to get a battering on here from some people who are clearly working through some frustrations through their keyboard.

Recently I am noticing more and more spiteful and vicious remarks made to other posters

I have been on the receiving end of these on a few occasions for a few basic reasons. As many peole in these forums know I do actually sell beds and mattresses. However I don't come on here to sell them, but I do come on here to give people honest advice, and to correct some of the rubbish that many bed retailers tell potential customers. These seem to be the main reasons that I get verball attacked on here:
    1. Some paranoid people can't believe that any retailer would take the time and effort to come on here just to help people. They seem to think that I am on here to sell.
    2. Some people hate to find out that they may not have made the best purchase, and that they may have been conned by a dodgy salesman.
    3. Then there are the people who think that because they have done a little research that they are now experts, and that I couldn't possibly know the products I sell.
    4. And not forgetting those people who are on here to sell, and don't like me telling people about all the sales gimmicks there are in the bed trade.
