my friend owns the N95 - 1 (none 8gig) and has warned me off of it saying his frequently crashes and freezes and is of poor build quality. if you can afford it, get a 8 gig as much better design and lots of issues have been fixed.
  • i have been after one of these phones for a while now but i dont really know how to go about getting hold of one.if you bear with me i shall explaine my situation.

i am now 14 months into an 18 month contract with o2, so in april 2007 i got a free nokia 6300 with 600 mins and 600 texts for £35 a month. It was expensive so when the news came about that o2 were to start charging for the 0845 numbers i used this is a starting point for the bartering. i explained that i didnt want to cancel my contract but that i wanted it severely reduced. eventually i got it down to £15 a month for exactly the same deal.

As my phone is 14 months old it has a lot of wear and tear and what also doesnt help is the fact that i like my gadgets!

So is there anyway of me being able to get hold of the n95 and possibly up my contract to say £20 a month. i know people will say to phone and ask but i have noticed that 3 mobile are doing the n95 for £20 a month or something like that, so maybe i could use this as an excuse for wanting to upgrade.
i know i only have 3/4 months left on my contract but im dying for a new phone!

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    many thanks

Is there an o2 shop near you?

They can be surprising helpful, in my experience.

I walked in with some time to go on my deal and walked out with a N95 8Gig. They were desperate to give me it.

I looked on line and it would have cost me £149 to upgrade on the web so try the personal approach first.
  • mmmm ok maybe i will!!
  • the only thing is i hate going into these shops because of all the rubbish they try to fill you with!!i understand i dont have the biggest contract in the world and i dont spend any more than what my line rental is so maybe that will play a part in what they are willing to give to me!
  • im gonna go up to my local o2 shop now and see what they say!

They let me try several phones and I wasn't even looking at the N95 8G but one of the guys brought it for me to have a look at.

I asked how much it would cost to upgrade and they told me it was free.
    So I took it.

Worth asking - no harm done
  • little bit of an update.

went up to my local o2 store and they were useless, they couldnt do anything for me. I wasnt necessarily after the 8gb n95, the original one would have done me. The cheapest they could do it was for 35 quid so i walked out. What i did learn from the bloke in the shop was that i was on the simplicity plan which meant i could cancel at anytime, and also as they had given me 400 free text bolt on they couldnt take that away from me either!

So i phoned them up and explained that i went to their shop looking to upgrade and they couldnt help me,but i also explained that i was considering cancelling as i was on the simplicity plan and also because i had seen the n95 with 3 mobile for 20 quid a month.

next thing i know im put through to retentions and he is bending over backwards for me. in the end i came out with the n95, 200 cross network mins which is great for me, free calls to any other o2 phone, 1400 texts, free 1gb sat nav, one month free line rental plus i can claim cashback in october for my prvious contract, all for 20 quid a month.

im not bothered about the 8gb model as i wouldnt store music on it and probably not that many photos so im well happy just cant wait to get my hands on it.

they did try selling me the new n96 which is out in august but i said i didnt fancy paying the ridiculous starting line rental of around 40 quid a month.

That's it on the main site now, must've been relatively recent. Although you will find it cheaper from other sites.

Just an update on T-Mobile, after emailing customer services I got a bit more personal treatment from people higher up than the normal upgrade team. The best they could do was beat the e2save price by £10, 3 months free internet and also a 2 year warranty. I'm not sure if the e2save deal would've given me a 2 year warranty but I was happy enough to take the £10 off and free internet even if I'm missing out on a bit of quidco.

So T-Mobile have redeemed themselves in my eyes and seemed to try their best to keep me happy, I always feel if you complain about a company you should praise them too when they do something right!
  • Theres a 2 year warranty on all (probably the whole nokia range also?) n95's anyway so dont fall for that one to sway the deal.
