Please Help me BENEFITS

Please can anyone give me advice on how to find out how and why I have "not got enough NICs, " which disqualifies me from claiming ANY benefit or assistance? And how I can put this right, so I can get on with my life?
I'm a 23 year old guy, out of work for a year, and dying to get back to work.
I have to sign on for JSA although, because of the fact above, I DON'T RECEIVE ANYTHING at all.
I feel as though I'm on a (not so) merry go round of "applying, being denied for not enough NICs, advised elsewhere, applying, being denied for not enough NICs, advised etc' etc'
Welfare rights and CAB seem to trot out the same old "keep trying" advice. Has anyone any productive suggestions how I can address this.
Thanks all.

Why are not claiming Income Support then if you have no money. As that has nothing to do with how much NI you have paid in.

I was under the impression that JSA came in two flavours one was contribution based and the other was income based. So if you had contributed enough you could get that one other wise you you get the other one which is income based.

How many years have you worked and paid NI then?

Do you have a partner and have income coming in? That could be why you are not getting anything.

With out real background info there is not a lot people can do to help you.

    Yours

thanks for your input, but, a little misunderstanding. I sign for JSA but I'm NOT ENTITLED TO IT OR ANYTHING ELSE.
I've paid NICs in almost all my jobs (only been 3) the last one lasting, legit, from May 2007 to Nov' 2007.

Seems odd to me, I am 25 and havent worked for 7 years due to raising 2 children however I was still able to get money from Job Seekers Income based.
Like others have said, do you maybe have a partner who is with you and earning too much?

So you're signing on fortnightly and are not receiving any money? How long were you working for before you claimed JSA? Did you go straight from a job onto JSA or was there a break? Do you have a partner and if so are they working?

Do you have a partner STAGEMAN, or savings, or any other source of income?

Hi there, I was in the same situation a few years back and it was because I had a partner who they saw as being fit to support me... :)

    dmg24, rachnbri, Evie82. Colin13,
Thanks for all your input, I'll try to clarify.
dmg24 Yes I have a partner who works. She earns £750-£800 per month.(thats what is making me feel like a kept man) she's a 24 carat diamond though.
Evie82, I'd like to know how you done it but, I suspect having children had a lot to do with it. Anyway, good on you girl, well done.
rachnbri There was a short break of about 2 months, because I was told that another ship would be arriving and I could resume work after Xmas 2007.
We live in a rented flat (private landlord) and only my partner's income pays for everything. I've tried to help a little by giving up smoking (cold turkey) this last 3 months and we don't go out socialising, to retain a little more.
My C.V is all over the place, thanks to my dad's computer and a lot of leg work but, as yet, to no avail. I do appreciate all you guys and gal's input, and I hope I've made my situation a bit clearer. Do you think I've got a chance, or should I just take a long walk off a short cliff?

I think your partners income is pretty much the reason that you are not being paid.

You are merely signing on as a means to help you find work, with the Job Centre supposedly supporting you. In reality if they are like my job centre, its a 10 min appointment with them offering you jobs that you are not qualified for or are totally out of you area of skills.

Other than being creative in earning some of you own money such as freebie hunting/ebaying/car boot sales/odd jobs I think your doing a great job just keeping your CV circulating.

Best of luck with finding a job asap.

I agree with Evie92, your partner's income is the reason why you are not entitled to any money (although you will be receiving NI Credits while you are signing on).

If rents in your area are particularly high, then you may be entitled to some Local Housing Allowance. However, it would have to be very high, as a couple are deemed to be capable of living on £90 a week (whether that is possible in practice is a whole other thread!).

If you can find a spare £100, or even just £50, you would be very welcome on the Matched Betting/ Gambling Loopholes board, which is an interesting way of making (tax free, non declarable) money. As long as you are confident in what you are doing, it can be very profitable.
