Just been out this morning and my yard garden has loads of very fat bumble bees flying around.
Although I love the bees,I'm not too keen on the realy huge wasps that seem to be around this year, quite aggresive they are too. We've also got a lot of ladybird larvae and unfortunatly vine weevil beetles. No aphids though so I suppose I should be grateful for that.I'm on the North East coast by the way.

Bees are scarce in the Royal forest of Dean though we see to have a few of them large foreign wasps.

Did anybody else see the programme on BBC2 last night (Friday) on the wholesale worldwide death of bees. This has such worrying implications for the future pollination of our fruit and vegetables on a global basis as scientists do not yet know for certain what is killing them. Perhaps we should all increase our efforts to grow some flowers or fruit in our gardens and allotments to provide pollen for them and refrain from using any insecticides in the hope that we can make life easier for them,

    Yes - It's very scary.

    I think it's the new phase pesticides & weed-killers.

Yes Primrose, I saw that programme.
Carting them the length of the USA can't be helping, different light length days and different temperatures.

I found a small bumble bee in my greenhouse this morning, it was just sitting there on the compost in my courgette tub, bless it.

There wasn't much movement in so I scooped it up in a half cut milk carton and took it outside, sure enough it was back in there a few minutes later!

I thought it was very enlightening. :T

The scary bit was the comparison the the miners canary. A sense of what's to come if we don't get our act together.

I always like to have flowers in my garden that attracts bees and other insects.
