Beginning to notice groups of wasps on the escallonia, but nothing like the quantity I would normally expect, and yay! - saw four bees all at the same time - but all very small. I'm guessing all of this this has something to do with the weather we have had here thru' the early spring period - warm then wet and cold - past few weeks very pleasant indeed.

I've hardly had any in my garden this year - I'm in the West Midlands. I did hear that there was some nasty virus that was killing the bees and it's really worrying beekeepers in the UK as they have no idea how to help the bees (personally I think it's to do with pollution) I've also heard that they are having the same problem in Germany.

I'm sure there was something on the news a few weeks ago about it.
There is now a website dedicated to preserving bees:T
I'm in the West Mids, and now have a house built for solitary bees hiding amongst the plants. Grow the natural plants that they love, and do your best not to spray with chemicals. With the wierd change in our seasons they can sometimes wake up early, this kills them. Bees pollinate 90% of all fruit and veg that we eat, and it's our duty to put away the bug sprays.

^ great photo!!! If things don't improve here, would you mind if I ran off a few copies and hang them around the garden.

(I'll do the buzzing sound myself!) ;)

I've already seen 2 bees today. One woke me up as it found its way into the bedroom and scared the hell out of me. Thankfully it stayed behind the closed curtains and went when I opened the other window for it. I haven't seen any wasps at all this year so I don't know what's happening there  . I'm all for bees and wasps and all of that I just get very nervous when they are near me due to when I was younger I got surrounded by them when I was in my play house outside :o .

No bees in my garden at the moment as nothing is in flower - I seem to have a garden full of leaves. Made a raised bed though and it is full of wildflower seeds, so hopefully something good will come of it...
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.
