Who is our resident gardening expert, is it Serena?? Apologies if its not:D Quick question, do you know anything about Japanese Knotweed? My mum is having a nightmare with it at work and she has been quoted upwards of 30k to get it removed with no guarantee of it not coming back:eek: Is that reasonable? The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Afternoon.
Back from Mr T with masses of points, done the recycling (more points) so just need to put it all away now.
Shell - well done you for going solo. I found it odd the first time I had the radio on in the car when driving.
G&B - from what I know it is a nightmare to get rid of but that quote is silly. Where does your mum work a stately home?
Crafty I saw on another thread that you have made elderflower cordial before - I see loads are in flower now could you tell me if it is easy and where you got the recipe from please.

afternoon ladies
shell :j well done honey! I knew you could do it, and it won't be long till you are a pro. You may have some hairy experiences, but hey, it is now you really start to learn. My 1st solo drive after my test, part of the steering had gone on the car without DH knowing, and the steering was so heavy i had real trouble manouvering the car. I drove 20 miles and it was only when i couldn't park at the other end that DH believed me that something was wrong. I also remember early on i tried parking on our street, and ended up somehow parked facing ntirely the opposite way to where i was intending. I was truly awful. Hopefully as you have had more lessons you should find it more easy.
welcome to miecherox and lizzie dripping
johanne i think you should mention the bleeding to your HV or Dr. Mine stopped about a week ago. If there has been no gap, maybe best to get checked. I know everyone is different, but if you are only doing 1 or 2 bottles a day you probably wouldn't have a period. Last time i BF, i didn't have any till i completely stopped, then literally stopped one day after reducing over a week, and the very next day they reappeared. Best to check anyway before you end up anaemic.
not a real lot been done here - just ticking along as usual dealing with stuff as it happens. I was really shattered though this morning so i am pacing myself to get to the weekend.- emptied kitchen bin
- peeled spuds for mine and DS1's lunch
- cooked lunch
- washed up breakie and lunch dishes
- changed lots of nappies
- spent half the morning feeding Sam - fed him for 2 hours again, and then he had a 5oz bottle 10 minutes later  . 3 hours after that he drained both sides again, but is now more settled
- DS1's nappy somehow had a leakage which ended up on the floor, and then he stood in it and also put a toy in it which then ended up on my knee. So, full new outfit for the 2 of us, and the soiled clothes washed and now out on the line, plus the floor needed cleaning before it was walked further around the house
- pulled a couple of weeds out in the garden as i walked past them - spotted we have some nettles in the garden that are waist height - will get DH to pull them before the weekend
- played with aquadraw, bouncy ball, drawing and shape sorter with DS1
- had a little fling boogie in the LR - mainly rubbish DH has left around
- collected post - thrown out rubbish, leaving a small pile to sort through.
- found a mouldy bag of asparagus that i had forgotten about in the pantry when i stood on it barefoot - ewww! in my defence, nextdoor gave it us from their mates allotment, and DH put it in the cupboard, and i had just had Sam and forgot.:p
Right - something.

No, not a stately home. She works for a large company and is in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of all their buildings in Scotland and NE England (about 1600 buildings altogether:eek: ) Anyway one of her buildings has a problem with Knotweed and the council have asked them to do something about itIts not like they planted it!

Hello all you lovely flyladies!!!!!
As you can probably tell on that cheerful start Auntie Flo has arrived here - sorry Pigpen - she'll be here a while yet!
Off to do MASSIVE sort out of DD1's bedroom - its is a complete TIP at the moment!
Dusty - noticed on your list you said you needed straw for the strawberry plants - we have got strawberry plants - do I need straw too??
(((Bonsibabe))) - sounds like a really upsetting time for you - keep fighting!
Giving myself a kick now to go upstairs and make a start - my Mum has got the girls so now's my chance to get things done uninterrupted!0 -
G&B the council will have asked them to do something because it is such a menice - I think it is notifiable like with diseases. I'm sure serena will help more but I'll see if I can get any more info. The greenfingered board on here are really helpful, so you could look there as well. Do you know how large the area is?

Hi all
And :hello: newbies
SSL - how did the interview go?
Thanks for that Kaz. I won't use sound though!
Solwaykid and Bonsibabe - big hugs
AnW's mum - thinking of you for tomorrow
Vanilla - congratulations!:T
Auntie Flo only visits twice a year now, unless I'm really unlucky.
I've been catching up on the thread while my "oh-so-slow" work laptop downloads, uploads etc to the server.
I've just seen someone (?) has posted the list with deletions instead of strike outs. I think I'll adopt that, as it makes your list look smaller instead of bigger! :rotfl:
Just had a call from my Line Manager to ask if I can go to our Head Office in Windsor on Monday. There's loads of paperwork gone astray and want someone who "knows" it to go up and basically raid the filing system!!! Thrilling.
Back laterDMP mutual support thread No: 433 - Mortgage - £54,556, Credit cards - £4012, Unsecured loan - £3,376, Other - £419

Hello everyone
welcome to all the newbies
(((bonsi))) - sorry to hear that. Do you have a welfare office that could help?
The interview went very well. I had done loads of prep. Unfortunately I didnt get the job, but I'm not too down. There was issues with the salary and I would have been working for the same amount as being at home off sickAnd it was good experience as I've not an interview in 4 years
So, I have to have a quick fly and tidy the house for viewing tonight. Oh and rescue my tablet. Lovely smell for the viewers0 -
g&b -if I remember correctly, the only notifiable weeds are ones that bother arable land, such as creeping thistle. Japanese knotweed is difficult but not I think toatally impossible to eradicate.I've only worked in one garden where bits of it came though from next door, and we controlled it by spraying with glyphosate, and pulling up the smallest scrap. I'll get in touch with the RHS and ask them, and Gardening Which?
I certainly wouldn't accept the first quote, as that sounds terribly high, depending on how large the area is of course. It may be that there are herbicides that are available only to professionals that can tackle it effectively. I'll get back to you as soon as I get an answer.
I'm totally exhausted today, after a tough couple of lessons yesterday, with an incident that involved calling a senior member of staff, then I only had a little while at home to make dinner before going out to a meeting, and returned about 11.30pm. I woke up this morning with a headache, but fortunately it went so that I could garden this morning. Downtown this afternoon, moving money around, and I have now paid the balance for our summer holiday. I'm getting quite excited about it - I haven't been to the Loire Valley since I was 15.
I haven't yet been booked for work tomorrow, so may have a day free to go to the allotment, and do some flying. I may do the bathroom after dinner.
dusty - DD said history was fine, and both DS1 and DD felt that the English exam went well - the poetry one today was more of a challenge I gather. No geography here, D has German and French to go, and the second history paper. DS1 has Product Design tomorrow. It's a 3 hour exam, but he can have a break if he needs to. If he passes, it won't be thanks to the teachers...
Shell - Fantastic news! Congratulations!!
AnW's mum - I'll have flowers for you as well - do you have a favourite to go with the yellow?
ssl and pf - good luck!
vanilla - Well done!
hugs for bonsibabe and solway. It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0
