To answer the OP's query - yes I would cancel the existing sharesave and put it all in a new one.

I have done this myself over the years when the share price has dipped well below the option price.
Just check before you do what HBOS will do to your scheme about the rights issue.

Hi thanks for your response - It's Mitchells and Butlers that I work for though, not sure if this makes a lot of differnce

Well it does, as M & B are unlikely to go bust... unlike HBOS... the main chunk of what i wrote still stands... esp talking to an Independant financial adviser... just ignore the hbos bits.

Hi, wondered if someone could give me a little advise on shares.... I know very little if anything at all.

I currently save £200 every 4 weeks through my comapnies sharesave scheme. This is a three year scheme (of which i am 10 months in) with the option of buying shares at a 20% reduction of the market price at the time of joining. This price was somewhere in the region of £7 per share when I took out the plan.

I have just recieved a letter to opt into this years sharesave - I was going to invest a further £50 per 4 weeks (The max you can invest is £250 over all plans) The current price to buy the shares at the end of the term is £2.50.

Should I cancell my existing plan and put all my money into the new plan? It seems like a no brainer but would appreciate any advise anyone can give me

I will get all of my money back but not any interest.

    Many thanks
I am in a similar scheme with BAESYSTEMS but if ours is oversubscribed which tends to happen when the shares are down then the allocations are scaled down. In other words I could apply for £250 a month but only be allocated £100 I don't know if this would apply to your company but they can only sell so many shares at a time.

So who is going to be brave enough to take advantage of the HBOS Rights Issue and buy more shares (now that the 'discounted' offer price is more than they're currently worth !) ?

rights issue at 275..Thought the current price was 298..But the way it's heading it won't be long till the current price is under the rights issue....

Well I am going to buy my allocation.
I defiantly will not sell my shares at this price, why would one?
I have no need for the money tied up with them at the present time just like when it was high.
I guess I will sell them when I am older or out of nessacity.
    Ps:
    Just a layman's opinion.
