HBOS shares

That's what they said about shares in Marconi, Northern Rock, etc. And look what happened to them!
You don't just hold shares in any old company in the hope their shares will go up in value, you invest in a company with growth prospects.
mine were all free shares anyway, on flotation, just gutted I didn't cash them in when they were £12 a share, as it is, I've just ignored them since I got them in 1997, so I'll just forget about them now too, didn't cost anything.0 -

Got my fingers burnt with them, I held the line, 'its Marconi, its a huge company, they would never allow it to go under'. I got nothing back for the shares I held, I could have sold them at £0.10 each and got something back but I still could not believe that it would happen.
Having said that, I do think HBOS will bottom out and rise again and if I get my guess right, I will catch them on the rise.0 -

I got some 430 shares when they demutualised and put them into a PEP. I moved them into general investment trust shares when they were about £11. I have some other exposure to them (and their preference shares) through another UK investment trust, and I have lost on these over the past 12 months.
HBOS should be able to make a lot of money from their savers over the next year or so, so hopefully the share price can improve from where it is now.0 -
Banks will suffer more even those who were comfortably off, are now starting to struggle. even companies are feeling the strain..Things are going to get worse regardless of what the Financial Industry says..you only have to take a look at the way the Government and Banking Industry have changed their views over the last few months

the shares are almost a third of their max of only a few years ago. The big question is will their dividends be similarly reduced. I'm not convinced they have suffered that much from bad loans so they may be worth more than the levels they are wallowing at now.
Having said that, I firmly believe that share prices are controlled by the herd mentality of the poeple buying or selling them.0 -
