As I have said many times I have experience of IFA's from those who post in this thread and that is more than enough for me to make my mine up about them.

One IFA has posted on this thread so I'll assume you meant to write inexperience.

What financial products do you have experience of?
  • how I wished I sold my HBOS shares when they were worth £12 a share, I have about 750 of the things. I just never bothered doing anything with them. boooo!

I sold mine a year ago when the price was £10.90.

Best decision(piece of luck actually) that I've made - would have lost £5000 approximately if I'd waited.

Place your bets on whether there will be a recession, what unemployment will be, what will happen to bank profits and what unknowns happen between now and whenever you sell.

If you're willing to wait many years to make a profit now is perhaps a reasonable time to start regular buying on a two plus year buying plan.

Closing price 330.75, hell they will be giving them away with every £100 pound spend on shopping before long

They will only go lower IMHO. Sell now while you still can.
  • I've had mine since about 1997, so I might at well just keep them and see what happens.

That attitude is illogical. If the share price is going to tank then you should sell before your holding is worth even less.

  • but surely over time they'll go up again, just like most shares in big companies?

That's what they said about shares in Marconi, Northern Rock, etc. And look what happened to them!

You don't just hold shares in any old company in the hope their shares will go up in value, you invest in a company with growth prospects.
