Hi I needed to upgrade my memory. After going through this thread, I got the confidence to install it myself. Thanks to the links.(The installation charge is as much as the memory cost in PC W****). Mine is a DELL DIMENSION 4400 with windows XP on it. The problem is Dell website is recommending a model PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM 184 pin with memory speed 400mhz(what ever all this means I do'nt know.) When I went to the online chat help, the agent said "This system supports only PC 2100 or PC1600 which is of 266MHz and 200Mhz respectively." It is confusing. Can anyone help? Please

If you download and run PC Wizard here it will tell you what you have fitted now and how many free slots you have etc. You can then buy similar RAM to what you already have.

i had a 256mb ddr 333 and a 128mb ddr ram till 2 weeks ago. It went ok as it was but since my boyfriend added 2 x 1gb i feel like its flying lol. Worked out quite cheap for me as i offered to pay for a meal which was cheaper than exspected

I too have just upgraded the memory on my PC. It's a Dell Dimension 4600 and was very sluggish. I used Crucial's website. Really easy, entered computer info into their search and hey presto back came the recommended upgrade. I also used their scan facility from which I could see exactly what RAM was installed in my computer - had no idea!! Anyhow, ordered 2 x 1 gb ram - as it has dual channel and can take a max of 4 gb ram and the computer is really flying along with 2.25 gb ram! Had no real problems installing it either. Quite straight forward. If I can do it anyone can!!0

I finally got round to installing the RAM- I bought two bits as recommended. When I took out my old RAM there was a problem with the monitor detecting input from the tower, so I put the old RAM back in and one of the new bits. Not sure what the problem was - would be grateful for any help as I now have a spare bit of ram that I'd like to put in computer and can't return to seller.
Thanks14 projects in 2014: 3/140
