192 mb of ram is pretty poor for Windows XP.
For XP to function smoothly you really want 512 mb, anything on top is gravy.
If you ever feel like flirting with Vista you're really going to want 2 gb; although, you may get away with 1 gb.
A nice video showing how to do it:

Talking about upgrading RAM, I've just upgraded by iMac to 2.5GB. When I used the crucial.com website it told me that the maximum amount of RAM that my iMAC could take was 2.5GB. Why is this? I thought that the more RAM a computer had the better.
Also using Vista Home Premium is there anyway to set the computer up to beep or make a noise when the CAPS lock key is pressed?

Its all about the motherboard you cant just shove memory in a computer of any kind and expect it to just work there are just too many variables, this is why we need to know what make/model his computer is so we can find out which motherboard and therefore give correct advice about what type of memory to buy. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0

How many years old? I would guess DDR, but I could be wrong, without knowing the model or serial no.
Example: DDR Memory0 -
The model is Ixtreme 6052 - I looked on the back of the tower this time (doh) . I'll have another go at entering the serial number into that link now and see if it works.14 projects in 2014: 3/140

This is what came up when I entered serial number - could someone explain please? What is the difference between these two?

Thanks thats great. Would it be worthwhile replacing both of them or do you think just one of these in addition to my current memory would be sufficient?14 projects in 2014: 3/140

My initial guess was correct.
Don't waste your money on any of the above.
Personally I would buy, two sticks of low density 512MB RAM from here.
22.48 for the pair inclusive of delivery costs.
Crucial would be 10 pounds more.
Packard Bell prices not even worth considering.0
