Hi guys,
My poor old PC is very sluggish and needs speeding up a bit. It's only a few years old so I don't want to get rid of it. From my very limited knowledge I understand that I need to install more RAM
. Please could you tell me how I would go about this? I am quite practical but have little knowledge re computers - I don't want to pay someone to do it as thats not very MSE.
Many thanks

can't always trust the crucial tool, it thinks I have only 1 gig, as opposed to 3Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Sluggish? consider the following
Do you have up to date virus software and virus definition files? they should be no more than 1 week out of date.
Do you have malware/spyware software installed is it up to date and do you do semi regular scans?
If you right click on your task bar and open task manager it will say in the bottom left corner how many tasks are running if its more than 40 then you have some work to do to isolate which programs and services are running that dont need to be.
If you open my computer and right click on your C:\ drive select properties it will tell you about used space/free space if your hard disk is too full this can cause slowdown.
Last question is what is the make/model of the computer your using so we can look up and find out how much memory the motherboard can handle and find you the appropriate module's to make the upgrade seemless and a success. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
Thanks guys.
Tom in response to your post all the things that you have mentioned have been checked and are fine. The computer is a Packard Bell ixtreme (Celeron (R) CPU 2.60Ghz, 2.59 Ghz, 192MB of RAM).
Is that the information you needed? Thanks for your help.14 projects in 2014: 3/140 -

192 meg of RAM? That's pants!
You should be able to upgrade this to at least 1.5 GB no problem.0 -

To function correctly, the configurator requires the serial number of your Packard Bell PC.
To enter your serial number manually, it can be found on the back of the CPU. NB: the number is the series of figures after the S/N indication. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
192MB is awfully low. If you're running XP, you would definitely notice an enormous difference with a RAM upgrade. In fact, I'm surprised it's running for you at all.
Go for it, the Crucial tool is a good starting place, and it's one of the cheapest and most noticably effective upgrades you can do. Take out the old, replace with the new, and it only fits one way.
If you aren't confident in your ability to D.I.Y, buy the stuff from Crucial too, as they have a money-back guarantee.Russia is HERE0 -
