cheers...it's an uncomfortable feeling in kind of limboland but I like it here as there are some good souls having the same thoughts and experiences as me.....For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070

I've been using Reed and job centre, though none are much use atm, there are at most five jobs in each sector in job centre, and nothing in my area at reed.
Someone said to try Monster, though I've found them less than helpful in the past."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

How long after application closing date can you expect to be called for an interview?

I have been looking for a new job since the beginning of the year and it is driving me mad! I apply for the naff office junior jobs (even though I have experience and am too old to be a junior!) trainee jobs and jobs I already have the skills to do but I get turned down over and over.
Even work experience positions that are supposed to be giving people a chance to get into an industry, don't give me a chance (Channel 4...damn liars!)
I finally got offered an interview last week, have been told I didn't get the job by my agent but they won't give a reason other than someone else had more experience. (there's always someone with more experience...how convenient!)
I am perfectly capable of doing every job I apply for but never get the chance
Is anyone else feeling this way? Anyone got any bright ideas for how to get a job when I'm applying for every job advertised (I'm capable of)?
If not I enjoyed the rant so thanks for reading!
Could it be that you are communicating an attitude that puts off employers? I don't blame you at all, but the frustration would make anyone angry and resentful, and employers don't want to share an office with people like that.
In this age of equal opportunities policies, most employers will give you detailed feedback after interview, but be prepared not to like what you hear.
As for being "perfectly capable of doing every job", people inside the workplace will know details of difficulties that you would not suspect from the outside. It is always better to present yourself as being able and willing to learn, rather than being a know-it-all type.0

I doubt the OP is going in as a know-it-all. I believe they mean if for example you apply for a job as a nuclear physicist when they know nothing about physics, then you're not capable of the job. But if you *have* office work experience and are applying for office work jobs, then you have a good idea of whether you're capable of the work.
The real problem is the numbers of people applying for jobs and the work "marketplace". Employers expect absolutely everything, and when they get 40 people applying for a job, generally they can get everything they want.
For an employer to believe a person cannot learn because they don't say they can seems incredibly naive on the employer's part. Humans by their very nature are adaptive and capable of learning.0

            Remember a few key points:
 * Tailor your CV to each role, to maximise your chances of getting it - if there are required skills, make sure your CV very clearly details them
 * Hit a number of job sites (Monster, CV Library, Job Search, Job Serve etc), and make sure you are SEARCHABLE! The time you spend now doing this will help you later
 * Don't spam for jobs you're not suitable for. If I wanted a £20k admin clerk I wouldn't even consider a CV from a £40k admin manager
 * Remember the smaller local agencies, they often have a good rapport with local smaller employers - check the Yellow Pages, don't rely on them calling you!
 * If you're seeking temp work, contact the agencies at least once a week. They'll remember your name and if nothing else will want to get you in work so you stop annoying them
 * Do some practice interviews - check http://www.businessballs.com/interviews.htm for technique and good questions
Hope this helps a bit in your search, good luck0

I've been looking for a job for about 18 months now and no joy. I'm limited to what hours I can work because my youngest is only 7 and there is no childcare round here. I've had about 8 interviews in all that time but so far no job
Most of the co's I've had interviews with have said they will keep my details on file for future reference but I've never heard anything from them since. I doubt I ever will either!
 It's so demoralising 0 0

Every single day I apply for jobs, I am always looking at several different job sites and always trying to find reasonable and relevant ways to train.
I really am at a loss - yes it is demoralising. I have good experience, good GCSE's - but also have 3 small children.
I want to further my training but can't afford it, so need a job to fund it, yet can't find the job, so am going around in circles - better quals mean better chance at job but need the job to pay for better quals!
I have changed my CV today to just add my skills right at the top in bullet points :cool:0 :cool:0
