Jobseeking is driving me mad!

I have been looking for a new job since the beginning of the year and it is driving me mad! I apply for the naff office junior jobs (even though I have experience and am too old to be a junior!) trainee jobs and jobs I already have the skills to do but I get turned down over and over.
Even work experience positions that are supposed to be giving people a chance to get into an industry, don't give me a chance (Channel 4...damn liars!)
I finally got offered an interview last week, have been told I didn't get the job by my agent but they won't give a reason other than someone else had more experience. (there's always someone with more experience...how convenient!)
I am perfectly capable of doing every job I apply for but never get the chance
Is anyone else feeling this way? Anyone got any bright ideas for how to get a job when I'm applying for every job advertised (I'm capable of)?

If not I enjoyed the rant so thanks for reading! ;)

I guess this applies to both of you but have you tried supermarket work, could give it a try, if you mention that you have a kid to look after they might be able to offer you something, aldi/lidl offer alot of money,

Are you getting replies to your applications saying no thanks or are you not hearing anything at all?

If it is the former it is likely there is something within your application they didn't like. If it is the latter it may be a case that your application hasn't been read.

Think job hunting has got to be the most frustrating thing ever.

Would you consider re-training? The jobcentre sometimes give funding towards training courses.

I presume that you are registered with agencies?

What areas does your skillset cover?

Got to hate the world of work. There's too many people with nice cushy jobs out there who'll tell you how easy it is to get a job. Problem is they probably got the job ages ago. For every job there'll be loads of people applying, more than half of those will be immigrants, and you're just one person applying for the job - in all probability you're not going to get it.

So you're left with the choice of benefits or cleaning toilets full of needles druggies have used for minimum wage 20 hours a week and being no better off financially.

I was made redundant in September last year, job hunting is a nightmare. I even got turned down for simple super market work, working on tills or doing the online shopping thing (on several occassions!)

my biggest problem is my husband!!!!! he works shifts which include weekends so generally any retail work is a no go, especially supermarkets that always need you to work at least one weekend day

    .

I'm afraid you're echoing my thoughts - certainly with the first part....I think locally we've not the same issue with the change in structure of the available workforce...I feel there's an undercurrent from those with jobs that getting a job in this day and age must not be that hard.... yet it's far harder than the media portrays - and still people believe what they read!

  • I'm the same, I've been looking for a new job since the start of the year, my current one is a nightmare (though the management's all change next week), but I've only had two interviews, quite a few rejection emails/letters and a LOT of no responses.

Hi, you don't say what industry you're looking for jobs in, have you thought of or tried temping or seeing if your local council, university or hospital has a bank for temporary staff? The suggestion for other courses or training is a good one too, your local library, Learndirect, or local colleges are often very sympathetic to people in your situation.

That's how |I ended up with my first permanent job, and there were times when I thought I'd never get one. Also, have you got anyone to look over your CV just to see if there are areas where you could be selling yourself a bit better, as it were? I know that doesn't help with application forms of course!

    Good luck with the hunt.
