Jobseeking is driving me mad!

Yes, there is hope. I'm a strong believer in fate and luck, because I think in situations where you rely on either you work that much harder to get what you want. And if nothing else this experience has taught me to budget properly!!
Of course I'll still help (hinder?) here as much as I can

The job I was going for, which I was so positive about, turned me down - I couldn't demonstrate my abilities apparently. Why this wasn't obvious during the first OR second interview when I was "the standard to beat", or why my CV didn't highlight anything - or why they didn't ask - is beyond me. They were actually pretty c****y about it and I wasn't impressed.
Never mind, I had another interview to go to - turned down, because the other candidate was slightly cheaper.
Got three more interviews, one today and two others coming up next week. None for the length of time I want, the salary I want or the location I want - but beggars can't be choosers and my savings dry up next month, when I would have had to consider making those "I can't pay you" calls
BUT. Wednesday, had an interview for a one-year contract job out of the blue, apparently called the agency the minute they got my CV, and were only considering two people (where have I heard that before). Thursday I'm asked back and have to re-arrange other things to fit them in - am told it will be a very tough and short second interview, but it lasts 45 minutes and we're laughing through most of it.
5:45 this evening: I got the job. I start next week, and am really happy - 30 minutes away, a lovely drive or straight train journey, and £5k more than I started my last job on. Celebrating with a pizza tonight and a big "FU" mail to those agencies that did nothing to help find me work (and a thank you to the ones who did)
that's great news....for all the help you've been to us on here....I'm glad the good karma has found you!
for the record...I start my job on Tuesday....so fingers crossed for me being the new kid...nervous now!For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
Don't think I've seen this thread before but it's good - lots of advice!
I've got a different problem in that I was verbally offered a job today and I don't know whether I should take it or not. I'm actually feeling quite upset and unsettled. I'm awaiting the outcome of another interview and I have a I have another interview lined up for Monday.
On one level, this job could be great but I was very stressed before the interview and I'm not convinced I've got the skills they're after. The commute will be a nightmare too, and we'd have to buy another car. However, as I'm trying to make a complete career change I'm scared to turn it down.
Don't know what to do, I've actually been in tears about it tonight!0 -

Don't get tearful, while its great that you have been offered the job, (I think that you posted that you accepted it) just say that you have changed your mind and the job is not for you. No job is worth tears and getting stressed about before you have even started. The potential employer won't feel bad about you declining.
Good luck with your interview on Monday. Also you said on another post that you had applied to the police and were waiting to be checked out - this takes a while so you won't hear straight away, it could take a few weeks to a few months so try not to fret.
The right job is out there and will come along at the right time, try not to fret if you don't get the job you want either because you need to take the viewpoint that its their loss and you were too good for them anyway:D
HTH and good luck for the future.0 -
Hey Guys. I'm new to this thread but after reading through, well done to the people who have got job offers and interviews!
I'm 19, and starting going back to college in September to get myself a career. but I'm in desprate need of a part time job, so I can just get by, I have applied for many places but I get nothing back
.. I have just tonight applied for Currys online. so Fingers crossed!! 0 -
You know Grizzly, you could always take the "safer" job option and become a Special Constable in your spare time - it would give you a real insight into the job and maybe get you closer to being accepted? Community Support Officers are one of the good things about the recent shake-ups in the police service, imho.
And, good luck to everyone still searching, or starting new things!!0 -
congrats on the job!
i went for an interview the other week, i thought it was a bit of an odd one, the manager was nice but it was all things like "can you work this day" and "is your timekeeping good" - nothing at all about my work experience, interests, qualifications, aspirations etc.
i really had my fingers crossed and was convinced they'd take me on, but on saturday i got that awful "thanks.... due to the high calibre of applicants..... not successful" etc
i don't mean to sound insulting but it's a saturday job behind a till !!!!!!, i'm actually overqualified for that!
i'm so fed up i decided to put my pride to one side and have applied for JSA. it's really not what i wanted to do but it's better than having no money at all and it's only till september as i'll have to sign off when i start studying... a bonus i guess?!
it's so bad, i'm actually really grateful and proud we have a benefits system but i won't tell anyone i know i'm on JSA as i feel really ashamed. that's terrible isn't it?!

I hated signing on too, there is a stigma to it but I still have to pay the bills. The bit I really hated was the attitude agencies had when I told them I had to sign on so couldn't meet with them - they either laughed or got annoyed!0

My complete sympathy to the OP.
I have a C&G in IT Support and A+ certification as an IT Technician, I've been at college for two years now.
I have been a builder for over twenty years now as a C&G qualified bricklayer, but decided on a career change, so I went back to college.
I've been looking for work for a while now, applied for countless jobs and have had only one negative reply, it's bloody frustrating.
I have a killer CV and top rate referees, but nobody wants to give me a chance.
Changing career is a damn sight more difficult than they say it is.
It looks like I'm going to be at college for another two to three years before I can get the right qualifications to break into the IT crowd. To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0
