Any of you posters used the job centres job search website to find jobs

i use it regularly but get frustrated at the lack of info about hours, days, pay, and the company you're applying for. i get so annoyed when they state "must have relevant experience" without putting what kind of business they are! how can you do a good application if you don't know who the company are or what they do? i know you can phone to get more info but i'd be on the phone all day!

i've finally had a few replies - the balloon artist vacancy has someone on trial but i've been asked to send my cv anyway. the dog's home emailed me back last night after i'd had a few, it closed today but i'll send the application in anyway, although to be honest they gave me details about hours and days and i doubt it will fit in around college :( the style advisor position i didn't get invited to an interview for as apparantly other applicants had more 'relevant' experience (i've previously worked for the company and have ample experience but hey, there you go  probably loads of fashion grads applying). ho hum, at least i know what i can rule out now!

off into town later for another cv trawl. yawn! i'm so weary of job hunting, when i actually start working it's going to feel like a breeze! :rotfl:

got my college's end of year show this evening which will be a nice break from the jobhunting, i can get excited about my course :T one thing i have gained from this period of unemployment is a nice backlog of 'artistic frustration'. maybe all this job hunting will turn me into a star

good luck and stay positive everyone! :)
  • I just had a call back from the agency regarding Wednesday's interview. I was working out on Wii Fit at the time (jogging, Island Lap if you're interested :p) and couldn't hear the phone properly but I knew it was a long message and I expected the worse so I turned my headphones up to ignore it.

Having been worried sick for the last fifteen minutes (how am I going to ever get a job, pay the bills etc) I got to listen to the message, and it's not great news but it's not bad: according to the HR person I am top of the list for consideration at this stage and very likely to secure second interview. No word from the actual manager who met me yet, so I'm hoping it was reciprocal and that HR has some clout with the people who matter (I did wonder why she kept winking at me, I thought she had a tic).

Well it's not great as I said (i.e. it's not the offer), but it's encouraging to know someone out there wants me. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ELSE WHO IS LOOKING RIGHT NOW! We will get though this, credit crunch be damned!

I dont have any problems with any details on the pages like what boldaslove described but i do find it annoying that i can put in a distance from my post code so it can narrow down the jobs and it gives me jobs which are more than the distance i specified,

  • I got made redundant last year. I decided to go and sign on to as many agencies as possible (they're not just for temps!) I got about 5 interviews in all, and got a job within a few weeks. And they managed to argue more money for me (because the more your salary, the more commision they get!)

yes that is another gripe of mine too. I put in 10 miles from my postcode (don't have a car so and public transport round here isn't reliable for long distances) and it comes up with jobs way out of that range and sometimes in totally different parts of the country.

the one thing i dont like about job search is that if you have to call up for a job with a referance you have to call a premium rate number !!

I expect that's so when you have your Back to Work Interview they can tell you to take any job going :rotfl:

I take my previous quote back...one of the agencies I've had 2 interviews through rang my mobile and left a message about some vacancies that they want me to go for....

Other news is that I didn't get the 5 weeks stint as a sports coach for July/August, which I'm now glad about because Wednesday's interview for a job that is far more "me" went well and I'm hopeful for an offer soon...

My best approach is to keep busy then if any knocks come along I've got something in the pipeline to focus on next.
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007

    Arrrggggggggggggg

    Bloody agency's.

I phoned up for a job in a pharmacists, the description said they wanted someone computer literate and who has retail experience, they also wanted someone who could do deliveries occasionally, but that wasn't the main part of the job. I can drive but haven't driven for a long time (over 10 years) so I would need refresher lessons before I got behind the wheel again but it wouldn't take long, a month max. Anyway the hours fitted in with the hours I can work and because jobs with those hours are few and far between round here I decided to apply anyway. The person I spoke to at the agency took my details said they would put my application forward and they didn't think that the driving thing would be much of an problem as it wasn't the main criteria for the job and it's something that could be resolved fairly quickly, they also asked me to send in a copy of my CV.

Just received a letter saying they HAVEN'T put me forward and they won't deal with me the future as I gave incorrect information to their advisor. !!!!!!???? What incorrect information, that I have a full clean driving licence but that I would need some refresher lessons  They are closed for the weekend so I can't phone to find out what the hell they are going on about. I am SO mad right now :mad::mad:

god, i'm so sympathising with the people struggling with agencies! i haven't bothered to use them this time as they just infuriated me when i was employed with them. i had one that promised me travel benefits but they'd take off £20 every week in 'administration fees', some of them are proper cowboys :(

i've always found reed to be pretty good, both in finding jobs and support while i was working. their website is really good for job searches although i do get annoyed that they let other agencies advertise, often you end up going through about 5 people before you get to the actual employer. it's all money to them at the end of the day isn't it?

looby75 do you have the name of the person who said they'd put you forward for the job? might be worth a complaint, it's so unfair how they waste people's time without giving a second thought to the stress they're causing.

i've started sending CVs snail mail now, directly addressed to the manager so i KNOW it will end up in their hands rather than sitting in a corner unnoticed. i've applied for 3 today, i really hope i get something soon i'm going a bit round the bend now! :(
