Many thanks, things have been very hetic as I had a 2 week business trip to the USA in mid-March and of course am presently sorting things out. Had a great weekend away where I used my Marriott points for the hotel (Sprowston Manor, Norwich) and was upgraded for free to a Junior Suite! :jWhilst the breakfast and evening meals are certainly not budget prices, the cost was equivalent to a decent B&B and eating out in restaurants. Partner and I enjoyed the break.
Spent Good Friday with daughter and wife, discussed some aspects of split with latter then played Shadows over Camelot for a couple of hours, which is a great board game for older children and adults alike. Today with DD we went walking in the sunshine for a couple of hours and tomorrow she will come with me and meet my new partner for the first time; DD is quite relaxed about it. I'll meet partner's children this weekend, but they are younger so taking things slowly with them, hoping they will adapt also. So we are moving forward in personal matters with all concerned and need to start formal arrangements on assets, having got some valuations on properties etc.
Financially, obviously things are in flux, but funds are doing ok presently. Current mortgage is just £6.5k and fully offset, but I will need to raise funds to buy-out partner's other half. My OH is looking at possibly selling and moving in the near term. Hoping to have much resolved by the summer for all concerned. DD will be taking holiday with her mum and I'm just looking at what I may be able to do with DD, partner and her children.
I'll try to catch up with the board over the next few weeks and trust everyone is ok?
Hi Stuart, great to have you back and hear that things are progressing in a positive fashion. It's always been easy to see from your posts that you have a strong and close relationship with your DD so I'm so pleased for you that things are going well on that front too.
I stayed at Sprwston Manor myself a few years ago and remember it being lovely although I was a bit miffed that my colleague got the room with the jacuzziI also remember the cost of dining to be really pricey and was pleased that work was picking up the tab :rotfl:

Hi Stuart
Just caught up with your thread.
I ended up in a similar situation to you, but was nowhere near paying off a mortgage.
FWIW, these things have a tendancy to work themselves through providing everone stays rational.
Stay on the forum, whatever you do, it'll be good advice for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation. Good luck and best wishes!

Many thanks for sharing that information. Things are moving ahead well with my wife, we put house to estate agent on Thursday, and asked them to market above their recommended valuation and a family who have already sold their home to a couple in rented accommodation viewed and made a reasonable offer on the Saturday before it was even listed on the web.... wife made an offer on a suitable property which was accepted so we too accepted the offer (after a small increase from buyers) on our home. It means daughter and wife can move to a home which is in a nice part of the place we live, cat should be safe there from traffic and daughter is happy with the house and location. I can then realise some of the equity to then move on with my new partner.
Spent some time tonight with wife talking her through mortgage aspects and caution on fees etc which can catch out the unwary and I have to say I've seen arrangement fees listed of £2400!
So in the context of my position, it is all remaining amicable and mediation will be running in parallel with the house sale. Still have to move on with partner's children and their acceptance of the change but that is one of the next big steps to overcome. It will be tough over the next several months but support from others here helps.
Will try to post a little more but rarely at main PC each week currently.0 -
Good to hear things are progressing as well as can be expected Stuart :jA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Nice to hear from you sounds like you have been lucky with the house sale. As for the rest of it hopefully it will work itself out at its own time.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Good to hear from you.
We all need a bit of luck now and again, and it seems that yours has come at the right time for you and your family.0 -
Hi all
Sorry I've been absent but life is quite busy.
Things are moving forward on all fronts and have been to first mediation meeting with wife to start preparation of the details so we can draw up the separation agreement. House sale is continuing forward so hopefully DD and her mum will be moving in due course; I've still to remove some things but leaving until exchange on larger items in case need to put back on the market (although this seems very unlikely).
Am mainly with partner now and her children seem ok with me, have also met my DD and all five of us had a great day out despite the freezing temperatures on BH Monday last week.
Next steps will be buying out partner's ex- which won't be cheap; have had some initial information on the mortgage and costs so will be planning around this. Obviously facing fees for the Family Mediation service but far less than a solicitor (or solicitor mediation service).
Car insurance is due so need to review; as is breakdown cover. I've been with the RAC for years but it is costly. I've seen the AutoAid information and discussion thread here (£37 pa) so am now thinking to try them out - any comments?
Tonight hope to be able to sort out a holiday for us all too; DD off with her mum to Canaries for a week in August (volcanos permitting!), and I want to see what we may be able to afford for partner, her two plus DD. With all the other costs I am concerned but it will benefit all to have a break.
Hope to soon be back on the planning path for mortgage but likely to need a 20yr initially and then plan around that. Will post once able to tell you more of the details.
