No, leave him in at night time just now...save washing bed sheets everyday!! Have you tried telling him that nappies are for night time and the toilet is to be used through the day?Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

He only wears 'night time nappies' now, he doesn't wear them at all during the day now. I even went back to proper nappies instead of the pull up ones - they were a waste of time as a potty training aid!!

You can get little balls (no pun intended! haha!) in ASDA (not sure where else stocks them) called Max, they're blue with a little face on them. They're supposed to encourage boys pee in the toilet so maybe instead of the potty, you could try just going straight to the toilet?Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Hi. My little one (18 months) just started showing an interest in the toilet, but he refused to use a potty (prefers the hat method) so we have to carry a toilet seat everywhere otherwise he falls down the loo!!
He seems to like taking his time on the loo and reading a book before he has a wee. If he's not keen on going (every hour or so), we've lined some empty loo rolls up so he can knock them down, this seems to change the crying to laughing and success!!2012 wins:

Hi Everyone
We are on day 14 and DS is now using potty for pee, but several attempts to go for poo and then we are missing sometimes for 2s. i find it very stressful as my mum has him 3 days when i work, I took last week off and i have warned her when things are imminent.
I havent been out the door much for ten days, and cried yesterday when ds asked to goin supermarket and held on till we got till toilet. i think it was relief i was starting to think he asnt ready and i was pushing him, is it just me as DH seems very relaxed and under no pressure about it

I only did nappy free at home to begin with because I didn't know what to do when we were out. I was petrified the first day we went out, (he's now been completely nappy free for 10 days) and was constantly checking to see if we'd had an accident. I almost jumped for joy when we were out and he managed to wait til we found a toilet.
In the end I just had to get it into my head to relax and if he did he did. He's made it most times to the loo and has just had the occasional accident. I've found the more relaxed I am the better he is.
Everyone seems to put pressure on you but just believe in yourself and him, he's sounds like he's already proving he's more than ready!!2012 wins:

I am told I was a right pain to toilet train until one day I decided I wanted a pair of my little pony knickers. Parents apparently told me they were for big girls who could use a toilet/potty et voila! I was toilet trained within days apparently!!
Its all about the right pair of knickers for some of us!Nothing tastes as good as riding a horse feels0 -
Hello all you nice knowledgeable parents out there. Bit of background first, DS1 will be 3 in august and started to look uncomfortable in his nappies when they were full about 2 weeks ago, so we decided to take the plunge and start toilet training. We have sent him to nursery with pull-up pants, and they have had some successes with him, although he does keep taking off his pull ups there.
At home, it's a different story. I have started giving him time after nursery before his bath where he doesn't wear anything on his bottom half, I have read and been advised by friends that it's best to do this 1st so he realises when he's weeing/pooing, then we move on to underpants after that. I have been out and bought a mountain of jogging bottoms for nursery and some underpants too so he can pull down his own trousers there (which he is getting good at).
I am now, however having a small issue at home. Every time I remove his pants he seems to want to sit on the potty ALL the time. I have tried encouraging him to play and then tell me when it's time to 'go' but he still insists on sitting on the potty. Is this normal? Am I doing all this totally wrong?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.0
