If you have a spare moment can you have a look in your crystal ball and see if the sniveling scot and his white haired henchman are thinking of going back further as I am looking at importing a V8 Mustang :smileyhea and was hoping for a 2005+ model but may now opt for a 2001 at half the price (less VAT / import duty as well :j ). Not a good looking though
PS on the green front my 91 Camaro had a Co2 reading of 0.02.
ROLL ON THE ELECTION
You dont need a crystal ball to know that buying such a vehicle at times like this is mad unless you dont mind paying a fortune on road tax and fuel tax, simpley a little common sence.
Like I have already stated I love how everybody says carnt wait for election but thing is do you really think you will all of a sudden start pay less in taxes if the Tories come into power?
Ok they may stop or lower one type of tax but only to raise it elsewhere, making poor and middle classes people worse off. :eek:0 -
Hi - first time threader so be gentle with me please! Have been waiting for this discussion to rear it's head...I bought a 2001 Peugeot in 2002....I loved it, I wanted it and at the time - no I didn't take in to account the amount of CO2 emissions it created (call me stupid but this wasn't such an issue then....hindsight..) So now I am ill, I rarely use my car as I not able to work and I cannot afford to put petrol in it, anyway and now I have to sell it as I cannot afford to Tax it. It's been brilliant, I haven't had to spend a penny on it and apart from the fact that yes it is a 2Ltr its really cost me nothing, except a huge amount of depreciation and worry. The tax will go up to £260 next year which is ridiculous as the car is only now worth a few thousand. What I don't understand is why not just tax new cars? Why penalize me and not someone running around in a 2lt car they purchased in March 2001?? That really doesn't seem fair. Had my car been a year older I wouldn't be faced with having to sell it - least of all the worry that I am selling it on knowing full well that the poor person that buys it will have to fork out a hideous amount of tax - do I tell them or do I keep quite??!! do I go without a car or buy an older one and a whole lot of trouble? If I was working and not in the financial hole I am in because of my illness I wouldn't think twice about purchasing something new and green. But I'm not. Any suggestions???0

Just heard on Radio 2 news that its official - West Yorkshire has the worst roads / most potholes in the country - never mind I'm sure they will fix them with all the extra road tax.
( or maybe it will just go to fund the labour MP's who NEED a £20,000 pay rise because someone thought it would be a good idea if they had to substansiate their expenses)Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
It's daft to tax gas guzzlers by road tax - as it hits the low mileage user more in proportion than the high mileage user - much better to drop road tax altogether, but increase fuel tax - then the higher users pay directly in proportion to use.
I know it's unfair to those who must have a vehicle - the professional user, the disabled, the country dweller. Help the professionals by partly increasing prices by raising VAT they can claim back. Help the others with vouchers to allow sensible use.0 -
As a family with four children. We have to have a large car in order to fit everyone in therefore we have a KIA Sedona. Gutted to see that this will rise to £440.00 in 2010. Unfortunately as with most other families on low incomes we will not be able to go to a new low energy vehicle. I think we will be better off getting two little cars but cant see how that is energy efficient as their will be two cars on the road instead of one only thing is then we will get stung with the extra fuel costs. I'm sure this government wants everyone with kids to live a substandard life!!0

Actually I will go one stage further. This government does not want us to step outside of our homes.
Gordon Brown wants to foist on us the penury he endured as a Scottish Presbyterian being bought up in total austerity. Tax us till we squeak, then squeeze some more. New Labour, my flamin' !!!!!.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -

We've been waiting until we could afford kids, in the last couple of years, we've decided it's never going to happen.
Mr Brown may be reaping tax off us now, but we won't be providing him with future taxpayers, in fact, we'll probably go and live on a beach somewhere nice in ten years time and spend the proceeds from the house there instead.
This government (?) can't see further than their nose-end, unfortunately, it's the country, and it's remaining inhabitants who will ultimately pay the price for their ill-informed actions.
Shame really, it was such a nice place...................0 -
Sorry if this has been asked already but I was just wondering if it is possible to buy your Road tax a month early. My tax requires re-newing in April 2009 (Obvious at the new higher rate) However, if I was able to purchase my tax disk a month early I could get 11 months motoring at the old (Cheaper) price. This saving would far outweigh the cost of 'losing' a months tax plus I would be saving every year (unless there is a tax decrease, and thats likely - I don't think!!)

Here's my moneysaving tip,- emmigrate.
I'm off to Dubai. I'm going to buy a V8 4x4 for me and one for the missus. Hopefully the Fun Police can't get to me there. £12 to fill each one!0
