I have, in my rush to fund the account before the deadline passed, over paid the account (Halifax Reg Saver) by some £500. Does anyone know what happens when this happens? Initially I was told by Halifax that the money is just pinged back to my account but now I am told they may either transfer it to my web saver, the nominated account, or send me a cheque....

Does anyone have experiance of this?

    Cheers

Never rely on what you are "told", ensure you have something in writing. The writing you want should be the T&C document. It should tell you what happens - perhaps that the account becomes an ordinary websaver account. However, the version I have has nothing about over payments so, in the absence of being able to get them to confirm in writing (or someone here with the experience you were asking about), I guess you will just have to wait and see if they return the funds. If they don't return them, check again in a couple of weeks to see how the account is being described.

Just wanted to clarify something. I opened and funded my account with £500 on July 20th. I'm guessing as the 28th has passed I can now make a 2nd payment of £500?

The second payment should reach your RS account by the 1st August at the earliest, otherwise you risk depositing two payments in the same calendar month.

Likely, at best the payment will be rejected, at worst you'll lose the 10% rate.

No. The initial deposit sets the timing, thereafter you're in to calendar months. So, as previous post, your next payment can't hit the account until August .... but it can be as early as the 1st.

    Thanks for clearing that up!
  • I made my first payment on 19 July.

Today, I tried to make a second payment from my HSBC bank account. However, I received a message saying, 'Payment declined. Please contact the person that you are paying' (something like that).

You guys are right. I will wait until 1 Aug then.

I would guess you have met a different problem. Don't leave it and assume that it's what you think. Make enquiries, I bet their software will not prevent a double payment.
If I'm right you can solve the problem, if I'm wrong, nothing is lost.
