Will have to look elsewhere to invest my 10k where I can open an account with that amount.
The Regular Saver doesn't fit what you're trying to achieve. Consider a fixed term deposit for the £10k? BM will offer you 7.11% gross for a year .... Halifax offer circa 6.7% if you can only tie it up for say 9 months.

Today I closed my 7%RS over the phone. They wouldn't open the 10% as I have to wait 24hrs and of course its a weekend. I've checked online and its already closed and the funds moved into the websaver. I have a Halifax current account and was wondering whats my best bet as Monday is the 23rd and I needs the funds into the account by the 28th (should be easy transfer Halifax current to RS) But which would be the quickest method of opening the account in terms of actioning a quick transfer:
1. In person
2. over the phone
3. online

I have decided to go with sending a SO for 23/6/08 for £25 and i will send another at the start of July - these actions seem to be most consistent with the T&Cs as I understand them - fingers crossed they don't find some excuse to not pay out the 10% rate.0

My first payment was made on the 16th June. If i make further payments on the 1st of the month that would make 13 payments as I joined on the 9th June 2007. Do i cancel the 13th payment before this happens?0

Definitely not the phone! They have to send you id validation via the post and I had to go into a branch for that. I've banked with the Halifax for a very long time, too. If you do it via a branch they can action the transfer there and then from your current account. I'm not sure about on-line, maybe someone else will answer that.Debbie0 -

Seems a bit daft .... they appear to have opened the new one for everyone else at the same time they closed the old one! I'm afraid they're not exactly covering themselves in glory, with regard to consistency.
The 28th isn't a deadline for the initial deposit. Otherwise anyone opening one, over the 'phone, next week ... wouldn't stand a chance? It only applies after the initial payment.
However - that's academic as presumably you wish to get some money in this month? In order you can then switch to early in the month for July?
When the 10% is set up over the 'phone it will be inactive (shows 'awaiting details {mine still does after nearly 2 weeks!}) until you return the document they will send you which essentially confirms you accept the T&Cs. But you can still fund it. You can't do it by direct transfer from your Portfolio ... as it won't show as a target account until it's active. But you can set it up as a SO from your current account using the Roll Number they will give you when you open it (tomorrow?). As it's essentially an internal transfer - the SO will then work overnight.
The funds you put in will show against the RS ... even though it is still 'awaiting details' ... and you can't open it to see inside! Then amend the SO to your subsequent choice of date.
So - quickest way is to open the account via 'phone tomorrow (I'm confident you won't be able to do it online ... as the 7% won't be fully cleared from the system until Mon night Batch). Then set up the SO before 1800hrs tomorrow night .. and it should be funded (but still essentially unuseable!) by Mon morning. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

If it isn't clear, the goal is to make the "13th" payment the "1st" payment of next year, but you can only do that after this year's account has matured, otherwise it'll just be repaid to you virtually straight away.
Edit - er... correction - just checked and I hadn't set up my SO from my current a/c (silly me!) but I've found I can't set a "number of payments" option - I could have sworn that was possible - now I'm confused!! Maybe it's only possible for external SOs?You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -

As I've recently closed all my 'feeder' accounts .... I suddenly realise I have no SOs set up at all within Halifax. But I did hastily knock 3 up on Fri night (but then closed the account Sat .. so can't check) to put the initial deposit into 2 x RS's and a Guaranteed Saver.
And ... I seem to remember thinking ... 'where's the end date' .. as I was left with something that merely specified 'monthly'. No end date and no 'number of payments' ..... both of which I'm sure I remember from the past?
This is their definitive .... from the website on the subject of 'how to set up an SO'. (It's a straight cut / paste. I haven't interfered with the English in the first sentence ... nor is it a copy from a scammers Email despite reading that way) :Last payment date
You can specify the date of the last payment you want make for your standing order.
Leave this field blank if you don't know the last payment date, or want the standing order to continue indefinitely. You can always delete the standing order at a later date if you wish.
.. so it appears the 'number' has disappeared. But I'm certain mine didn't give me an end date option either. Will investigate in more detail when I set the proper SOs up next week.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
