Not necessarily. Mine didn't - no extra charge.
MPG is less but can vary. I get about 15% less out of LPG to petrol, but then I get it locally for 47p as oppose to £1.13.
I don't think you will get a grant to convert. It costs £1000 to £2000 depending on the make of system, type of car etc....
I paid £1200, but plan to keep the car 3 or 4 years, so for me it was a no brainer and will be paid for in 16 months (although this is reducing all the time as petrol continues to rise in cost).0 -

OH and I both had our cars converted - his is a 3.0 litre Omega Estate, mine is a BMW 5 series touring (Estate). Both mid 90's models.
Best thing we ever did. When they were converted, several years ago, petrol was around 79p a litre, and we could get LPG for 30p a litre if we looked (Sainsburys in Watford was the cheapest back then, don't know if it still is). Niether cars have suffered any loss in performance. He gets around 180 miles to a 40 litre LPG tank, and I get around 270 to a 52 litre tank......Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
I thought about LPG before buying my current diesel.
Unfortunately there is no supply of LPG close enough to home for it to be an option for me.
I'm not keen on loosing the wheel well & spare wheel or a chunk of boot space to a LPG tank either.
This is a good site for info. on the pitfalls and successes with LPG conversions.

i have converted honda civic 1.5 LSi automatic to LPG in poland - it cost me then about 350 pounds now it should be around 450 ( as pound loss about 20% to polish zloty). Im doing avarage 180 miles on 33liters of LPG on a motorway i can do up to 220 miles. If i buy another petrol engine car i will defenetly convert it. In poland we have LPG station every few miles ( lots of private LPG stations witch offers ONLY LPG ) - its very very popular.0

isnt the rate that LPG is sold for up for review soon. I understand that it is being kept low for a fix period but this is due to change in the near future? Might be worth finding out if and when a change in cost (tax) is due and wait and see0

I've been researching LPG conversion recently and have decided to take the plunge. Based on my current MPG (26.5) and the miles I drive (12,000 pa) coupled with the price differential between Unleaded and LPG, the conversion cost will pay for itself in 19 months. What I have discovered may help those that are thinking of it:
- You must get an LPGA approved or certified conversion, otherwise you won't be able to insure your car.
- An LPG conversion is a modification, so you must advise your insurer, otherwise your insurance will be invalid. Most insurers DO NOT charge extra, but will want to see the LPGA Certificate issued by the person doing the conversion.
- Fuel Consumption is about 15% more than Unleaded because of the lower energy content of LPG, but it is half the price.
- Based on the above, your cost per mile will reduce by about 1/3rd.
- You don't have to have a tank in the boot. Combi tanks (Petrol and LPG) that replace your existing petrol tank are now available.
- There are no grants available anymore
