how is a doorstep safe to leave a parcel, its the worst place to leave 1,

Not sure how they work that one out TBH,
The person I spoke with was not interested in speaking with me anyway, she had a very flippant attitude.

They have also told me when I was trying to find a missing parcel that the driver left it in my secure porch. Oh that very good of them but I dont have a porch so not sure when my parcel ended up?
Think it's about time the comping fairy remembered where I am! lol

  • I wonder if this happens anywhere else,or is it just my area.Postmen and couriers all take advantage of the recycling bins and leave parcels in the blue paper recycling bin.Annoying enough because I leave the storm door unlocked and they could easily leave anything in the front porch instead.More annoying when the bin bin is totally empty and I have trouble retrieving the parcel way down at the bottom.
This morning however I got home from school drop off to find a card, sorry we missed you-parcel in blue bin, well okay but today is blue bin collection day and guess what? The blue bin was empty!
I havn't even phoned NEXT yet to tell them.Does anyone know where I stand on this, will I still have to pay for the item?It was only £15 but not the point,it could have been worth hundreds and it would still have been put in the bin.
I could also be fined by the council for there being a non paper product in the recycling bin.

I wholeheartedly agree the times i have told my postman and courier DO NO LEAVE PARCELS and they still do grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Not your fault, so I don't see why you can't claim it back..

Pretty crap tho.. Maybe you could put a sign in your window or on the bin stating not to leave anything in there?

Done that still does not stop them

My courier often leaves stuff in my black recycling bin. They also leave a note (pushed right through the letterbox) stating where the item is. I am always really pleased, if they didn't do this they would have to take the item back the sorting office and I would then have to collect it the next day.

However, I have never have the problem of the bins being emptied with an item in it. This is because my bins are in my (open) porch and on collection day I put them at the boundary of my property. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that this would happen to me.

    Our postie has done this before. Would be all fine & dandy but;

They never leave a note so we don't know they're there!

One occasion we were on holiday & it was clear the items had been there for several days-surely they would've noticed the parcels were still there...soaking wet from the rain...on full view for anyone to steal....

Also, a courier just dumped an expensive electrical item on the front door step & didn't even knock to see if anyone was in! Luckily I was!

I think I would rather go & fetch my stuff from the sorting office or re-arrange delivery than risk it being stolen!
  • I always leave a note on my order to leave the items in the unlocked garage should I not be in.

Over the Xmas period my garage was locked due to the kids Xmas pressies being in there and the courier and I (we became friends due to him being a delivery driver for loads of online companies) and we agreed that if I wasn't going to be in I would leave items to be collected in the blue bin and vice versa.

Earlier last year I was missing a delivery from Laithwaites Wine. When I called them they got on to the courier company and then came back to advise there was no-one in when it was delivered and it had been left in a shed. quote]

We ordered a case of wine from Laithwaites. The other day got home to find a card with the box ticked "in porch" and by it writen by side of porch. We don't have a porch so called Laithwaites who said they'd contact home delivery network.. Anyway last night a delivery man comes along with another delivery from M&S and said he also delivered the Laithwaites one and left it in our garden. (We'd asked for it to be left with a neighbour).
He then said it will come out of his salary if it's gone missing - but I do wonder if that's the case why he left it there?? In the garden - in full view of everyone?

I felt really sorry for him, don't really want him to have to pay for it if it's gone missing but we've paid for a case of wine and don't have it. And paid £7 for delivery!

Anyway Laithwaites called today to say driver has told them he left it an alcove!! I asked how they were defining an alcove?! I told them he'd been round last night and told us he'd left in the garden..

I also had a problem with Parcelnet saying they had delivered something for Debenhams and I didn't get it - then they sent me an email "proof of delivery signature" which had someone elses signature on it!!! Arrghh!!

It is reassuring to know this doesn't just happen to me!

and leaving a parcel outside a front door in a block of flats IS classed as safe place

We've had them leave things OUTSIDE the main front door to the block of flats! (catalogues especially, along with the envelope containing your account number so someone could easily start ordering goods and waiting for the delivery, guessing you are out in the day)

We get everything delivered to work address now.

    Our delivery driver is excellent
He delivers my Empire Stores parcels

He always leaves them somewhere sensible usually under my husbands motor bike cover (which is on motorbike in back garden)
This takes some effort as he has to kneel on my wheelie bin lean over gate to undo bolt
Trudge up garden raise bike cover balance parcels on seat replace cover re lock gate

Hes a star saves me trips to the sorting office or delays
He has also bought in parcels from the book people for me (they left it on the front porch for all to see) he put it with my other stuff safe & sound

He then posts a note right through door telling you where it is as well

When I spoke to him he said he does what he can to keep his customers happy cause he loves his job and wants good feedback

If I could nominate him for delivery person of the year I would
"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."
