i have a small note on my front door stating that parcels can be left in the shed at the rear of the property. Royal Mail deliveries are always in the shed but about half of my courier deliveries are still left sitting at the front door in full view of everyone - Home Delivery network are the worst culprits - I came home recently to find a parcel containing electrical goods worth around £200 sitting on my doorstep in the rain!

they leave things in my growhouse - but last year when i was at a friend of the families house she needed to use the bin (lives on her own and had 4 visitors so had to us the wheely bin instead of the bin bag she puts out once a week) she was mortified to find an item in the bin - for an item that should have been delivered 3 months ago!! in her bin!! she had ordered an item and it never arrived and 28 days later contacted them to say it had not arrived they arranged for a replacement to be delivered to her work address she had this and found the item a few months later in her wheely bin that she never uses!!

Annoying enough because I leave the storm door unlocked and they could easily leave anything in the front porch instead

What sort of thing are you thinking ?

unless it is a breakable item what is the problem? they have put it in your clean paper only recycling bin. our postie used to do this with parcels and it was preferable to having to go to the sorting office to collect or wait on courier companies to find a redeliver slot.

if they left a parcel in your porch behind your unlocked storm door - perhaps they would be worried about theft?

if ithappens again just put your blue bin on it's side and angle it towards you and your stuff will slide down.

    glad you sorted it though.

HDN drive me potty. Anything that's for us gets delivered to a house 2 streets away (a sat nav problem, I believe - although the street signs are clear), left in their garage with no note. This has happened on no fewer than FIVE occasions, three of which were mobile phones, all allegedly signed for too! If someone had signed for them, why would the driver need to put them in a garage?!

doorstepping(in RM speak) is an interesting one
just today i had 2 complianents in a row
1 guy was in kicking up a fuss as he had to take time off work to come and pick up his item
the abysmal service we provide is ridiculous that people have to come and pick up packages.
why dont we leave the items on the doorstep
the woman behind then steps up to complain a postie left her free lightbulbs on the step
so he tried to save her a trip but she came down anyway to complain

i now advise all posties(both foot & van) to doorstep nothing and leave a card for all items
anyone who complains about it is welcome to come and talk to me ;)
the ones complaining now will be even more put out when we move to our new office

the problem is that most courier companies have lots of deliveries classed as LEAVE SAFE
its up to the driver as to what he thinks is a safe place porch/back door/shed/etc
when i worked for amtrak we were told to leave boxes of wine on front door step

LEAVE SAFE doesn't mean leave your commonsense behind.

I've lived in blocks of flat with door entry systems so the trade bell can be used open the door times in the morning particularly for the postman. This means that anyone who knows that there is this system can get into the block and this includes leaflet droppers, Jehovah's Witnesses and door-to-door salesmen.

The postmen have always used their commonsense and have not left parcels on people's doorsteps and instead have given them to the neighbours. (There is always someone in.) Half the courier companies particularly Amtrak and Parcelforce leave them on the doorstep of the flat or even worse downstairs by the entrance door.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

so why dont you tell company your buying from that you dont want it deliverd on a LEAVE SAFE/ON SERVICE
as regard your coment that there is allways somone in they havnt got time to knock on loads of doors
and leaving a parcel outside a front door in a block of flats IS classed as safe place
