  • Hi, Gerry, and welcome to the thread.

If you've been reading for a while, you'll know I can't offer any location-specific advice since I'm in France rather than Spain. But, in case it has slipped by unnoticed, I'll just repeat here some advice that I think we've all offered at one time or another in the past.

Do visit your chosen location for as long a period as possible - and preferably at different times of the year. Great idea to visit in the winter, but also be there in the summer, to check you can cope with the heat.

It stands to reason that the greater your experience of the area, the more confidence you can have in your final decision.

Good luck with all your plans.

    Hi again

Where we are we have 8 supermarkets within a 20 minutes walk, and loads of bars/restaurants within that area too, where we are is hilly though, but there are flatter areas, this is not complex just a urbanisation. There are taxi's though, the best flat walks are along the sea fronts, but that again is the same type of walkto get to in the first place. I would certainly go and try out your friends place, the one things you do have to tend to travel to are post offices, and doctors.

We travel down by car now and as such see France, and/or get the Portsmouth/Bilbao ferry and see northern Spain, We both are happy driving on the continent, and gives us flexibility when we are out here, let along being able to bring what we want in the boot (both ways).

We don't live in Spain, but keep coming to our house there for two months at a time, approximately after having two months in the UK.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

has a matter of interest what sort of rental fig should i expect to pay for a one bed apartment during the winter months {on a monthly basis} i appreciate there is going to be a fairly wide band depending on location and facilities ect, but it would be useful to have some idea of what is an average price in the region where your property is located

I don't know, but this site might help. There are also possible reductions if you find someone who does this without agents, also check whether prices include water/electric or not. (gas is mainly bottled)

There is a huge choice of rental property all along the Costas, less choice available inland. Prices vary greatly depending on location and quality of the accomodation and local amenities. What is your budget? Is Moraira your prefered location? You might find this site interesting> http://webcam.comunitatvalenciana.com/webcamcostablanca-teulada-moraira.htm?id_camara=49

You might want to consider hotel accomodation where you will have all amenities / entertainment available and if you need asistance you only need to call reception. There are many very reasonable hotels which offer very good rates to long term residents. Bennidorm is very pleasant out of season and accomodation is particularly cheap.

I know of two retirement complexes near Torre, both are exclusive developments providing 24/7 care. They may not be suitable for you and they are quite pricey, but it really depends on what your requirements are? and I guess you get what you pay for?

Any idea how one would locate such hotels?
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

There is a lot of info on the web, see http://www.thebenidormguide.com/benidorm_hotels.htm

PM me your price point, whether you want to be near the beach or in the old town, what kind of entertainment you prefer, any other requirements you may have and I can suggest some you might like.

Any of your Francophiles - just landed at Orleans for the night and it looks like the exhaust has gone on our VW Passat. Where is the cheapest place to go for a repair/replacement.
