Living abroad tips and hints for money savers

It´s been the same for us in our little village in Almeria. The 2 Ramblas (normally dry river beds) have been transformed into raging muddy torrents clearing everything in their path...you can see why Andalucia Junta stopped more building in the river beds! It´s been impossible for people on one side of the rambla to reach the other side where the main roads are.
This month has been exceptional for rainfall, the last lot brought a muddy landslide down the mountain, across the main road and down onto the Olive groves just along the road from us.
We also have a leak in our roof thro onto the new wooden beams, (staunched with towels at the moment) but it´s going to be a few days before OH can get it sorted and a new lot of caucho paint put down, and then quite a time for the wood to dry out. Oh the joys of living somewhere which is supposed to be the driest part of Spain.

Oh SDW and sandy2 - How miserable for you. I guess our snow and ice is perferable to a leaking roof. Our temperatures have risen to 5 today and we have had some rain but the hard packed snow and ice is not giving in easily. Just returned from a neighbourly get together with mulled wine and nibbles.
I hope you both manage to have a peacefull day tomorrow. Happy Christmas.member # 12 of Skaters Club

Merry Christmas to all friends on here, and special thoughts for s-d-w and sandy2.
The weather here in Belgium is also very wet, but this is not a bad thing as it is clearing away great piles of snow.
I hope Santa brings something nice to ease our worries.
Peace and happiness to all.

Thanks for your messages. Merry Christmas to everybody.
- Sandy, just ignore the leaks; it's because you are in the driest place in EUROPE, not just in Spain (we are next door!) - they don't know how to cope with lots of rain, it will pass!
Raining again now, btw!

Sorry to hear of the bad weather, at least we are dry inside, and have the option to switch the CH on to keep the cold out.
Merry Christmas to friends old and new.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Happy Christmas to everyone. It´s not raining here at the moment thank goodness.

Merry Christmas everyone.
Was bright and sunny this morning, but clouding over again now......
We went for a walk this morning. There have been so many landslides, big and small. The land has just been washed away. Some of the roads in our village are impassable as flash rivers are running down them.
Oh well, such is life in the mountains! At least it is not boring!(AKA HRH_MUngo)
