    Hi there

Well done victory :T what a lovely prize :T

    Hi Natty..
I bet it would be fine, but i would probably stab a few holes in the chicken and make the parcel the night before and leave it in the fridge -then cook it when you are ready...it will give it time to soak into the meat that way :D

Does anyone know if I can freeze mushrooms? I bought about 5lb of the darn things at the market for a £1.00 at the weekend and now I don't know what to do with them...lol I know I will use them in Dh's stir fry tonight, and to pad out the chilli tomorrow but I don't want to waste the rest, so was going to freeze them.

We don't have fresh mushrooms to eat, as I can't stand them, so it won't matter if they go soggy as they will only be for cooking.

    Help!!

I slice my mushrooms up and stick them all in a freezer bag and freeze them..and when you want some just take them out and chuck them straight into a pan :)

  • Hi Everyone

Im a relative newbie and want to join the grocery challenge!

Slight problem though we are newly weds and Im not exactly the most domesticated person in the world, though I do try! Approx how much do all you lovely people think I should aim for with the challenge? Have no idea really how much we usually spend (purely because I never pay much attention to it) There is just myself and hubby at home.
    Thanks

I would fry some off with an onion until just done then blitz them with some veg stock and freeze as the base of a mushroom soup.

When I defrost I either add some small potato cubes to cook and garnish with bacon ends and parsley, use as a veg suop base or add creme fraiche to make cream of mushroom soup...

I would only use frozen (raw) mushrooms in sauces e.g. spag bol rather than stir fry as they still feel slimy even when cooked

    Hiya Confused Newbie :hello:

I think the best thing to do for the first month of the Grocery Challenge is to not set a budget but just keep all your receipts for your shopping. Then at the end of the month you will have a good idea of what you are spending and will be able to set a suitable target for next month.

If you do it this way you'll probably find you spend less than normal anyway because you'll be more aware of it. HTH and good luck with your first month.
