    Hiya Confused Newbie :hello:

I think the best thing to do for the first month of the Grocery Challenge is to not set a budget but just keep all your receipts for your shopping. Then at the end of the month you will have a good idea of what you are spending and will be able to set a suitable target for next month.

If you do it this way you'll probably find you spend less than normal anyway because you'll be more aware of it. HTH and good luck with your first month.

I'm a relative newbie and that's how I did it (although I lurked for a couple months first).

We have been known to spend up to £300 a month  (and we don't drink much so that's largely without alcohol) althought the pricier months tended to be when people came over for dinner.

There's just the two of us and I've out £200 for our first challenge. As we're only counting 3 weeks (on holiday at Mum's 4th week which is basically an all you can eat fest) this should be easily achieved simply by applying a little self control.

July I'll start applying some pressure (although that'll be a short month too as we're not back from Mum's until 6 July:rolleyes: ) and I won't have the advantage of a stocked frige/freezer from the month before.

    Hi Everyone

Im a relative newbie and want to join the grocery challenge!

Slight problem though we are newly weds and Im not exactly the most domesticated person in the world, though I do try! Approx how much do all you lovely people think I should aim for with the challenge? Have no idea really how much we usually spend (purely because I never pay much attention to it) There is just myself and hubby at home.
    Thanks
Hello and welcome to the thread. I am a newbie too and you will find a wealth of info and support here. How much you spend is down to your budget really. I could quite easily spend £100 a week on food, eat rich and fattening food and then throw most of it away at the end of the week. Since joining this and a couple of other threads I am determined to lose weight, feed DH and DC healthy food without spending a fortune. My target is set at £200, I have 2 frezers fit to burst so I am going to use up freezer and store cupboard contents then plan and buy accordingly when I have exhausted current supplies. My £200 is for all groceries including household bits like cleaning stuff etc. Why don't you set a weekly one for now and see of you can stick to it, then adjust accordingly. If you can afford £50 a week on food try going for £30 and save the spare money.
    Good luck
  • Awwwww thank you all for your advice!

Ok did a few quick calculations and Im estimating £50 per week (including all household cleaning things, etc) so going for £200 this month. Though not going to be too hard on myself as this is the first month so gotta see how things go.
